He’s been surprisingly poor. He’s never going to be a world beater but he is a decent PL level striker. You wouldn’t think that watching him in recent weeks though, he can’t do anything right at the moment.

It's hard playing as a striker in this Everton team, a lot of players would struggle.

However Maupay isn't good enough anyway

Absolutely nothing sticks to him, we're banging the ball up to him and we're surprised when it come straight back. This fella can't play up front on his own, his hold up play is poor. If we play him, It must only be as a second striker.

Well, there doesn't really appear to be two brain cells to rub together between Gordon, McNeil and Grayaldo let's be honest. Three really thick and technically very poor players.

Something’s got to change. We pass it around the back four ad nauseam, then it inevitably goes back to Pickford who hoofs it downfield. This is not Everton football.

I really didn’t see enough of him or pay enough attention to him at Brighton - how do we get the best out of him? Other than create more chances for him, obviously?

Off the shoulder balls or low crosses from deep seem to be what he prefers for scoring. He likes to peel off into the areas Jelavic used to his first season but is good/decent at attacking the ball when the defenders are running back to goal.

We are asking a lot of him when he lump it up to him. Even sometimes when he tries to play on the ground and link up like Steven Naismith used to it isn't coming off for him. I'm not sure it's in his locker to be honest.

I like his workrate though and he does make intelligent runs to create space for others.

All that said I wasn't watching him like a hawk for Brighton so I'm mostly going off what he's done well for us and some footage so take it with a pinch of salt.
