2023/24 Neal Maupay

This is the element of Everton, and many other clubs admittedly, that fans don't like to admit to. Seriously, do they think he will give his all after stuff like that?
He should be rightly criticised on social media if people choose to do so, this in a way is a form of social media, but for his inability to play football, not for shots at his family, same with any player, and as for doing it via a DM, that's just pathetic.

Go Neal! 🤣

Fair one, maybe not a clown.

What he earns however is absolutely irrelevant.

Blame those at the club who signed him, and I don't mean Thelwell and the recruitment team who identified Bilal Toure last season. Instead blame our revered board led by transfer guru Bill who went for 'premier league experience.'

Douccoure put in a worse showing than Maupay yesterday, doesn't get 5% of the stick. Fans have preset ideas of what they're going to see at Goodison and it's a really hard cycle to break.

Even if by some miracle he scores next week, some fans would be moaning "Oh no, dyche will stick with him now."
This is my view on it. Why anyone would go from a footballer not playing particularly well to contemplating harm to his family is beyond me - it's pathetic.

But to even have the stupidity to send the message, and that's what these people are - stupid, vile knuckle-draggers. Do they think it's going to inspire him?

It's probably the same amoebas who booed Atkinson before the game, and then expect him to be impartial or even in some way favour us. Idiots.

I thought Maupay did okay yesterday apart from his finishing, which (the latter part) is fair to criticise. He should have scored. But let's look at the wider context...

Is he trying? Yes. Has he, from any sources, been a negative part of the dressing room or tried to upset the apple cart? Not that I've heard - the opposite, actually.

So either we aren't utilising him correctly, which the stats may suggest, or he simply isn't to the standard, therefore some of the blame needs to be shifted away.

He isn't good enough and what we need - that's a fair comment. Due to this, being disappointed to see him in the XI is another justified perspective.

But shifting all the blame on him, and then sending vile comments like that is, as @Walken rightly said, indefensible. Period. The top of the pyramid are the blame.

Sadly, it is another example of how many bellends are in our fan base; the same fans, dragged from the gutter, who chased down Mina and Gordon last year etc.

Like you say, Doucouré had one of our best opportunities yesterday, similar to Maupay's, but where's the flak? Patterson missed an open goal too!

It was easy to pick him out yesterday for the chances he missed, yes he put himself in the right position but ultimately he should have done better. That however dose not warrant the sort of abuse and hatred that is all to common now on social media.

It is embarrassing to have the club associated with that bbc article highlighting the abuse directed towards the player.

I hope whoever is responsible are identified and punished. Unacceptable.

Couldn't agree more!

The lad got dogs abuse on here before during and after the game too. Took some bot to chime in cos he was negatively trending on social media to put things into perspective.

I said yesterday I don't blame him for us losing yesterday like the majority did because the team as a whole didn't do enough or put chances away.

This is what the board and DoF have created, not the players. We need to get back on them

As did I. I can't remember who it was (a quick search would do the trick), but one of the usual bores chirped up that we lost because of Maupay - him alone.

No, we lost because we conceded a poorly defended goal - how did he freely waltz in at the back post? Without that goal, it was likely a draw at the least.

We may have even went on and scored later on as it took the wind out of our sails, although we did have other chances later on too. We were the better team.

They conveniently ignored Doucouré and Patterson, too. It's fair to suggest that with someone else up front we'd have won, but you can't put it all on him.

In terms of the hierarchy of the club, they are exactly who are to blame: we are mooching in the bargain-basement because of their previous incompetence.

But we all know, they'll look at these comments and simply see it as 'defending Maupay' or 'Maupay love in', but you can't account for stupidity.

I've never understood the directed abuse on social media that some cretins appear to revel in and to start abusing family etc is even worse. However as a fan I think I can make a comment on the guys performance on a forum like this set up for (let's face it) us to talk about all things Everton and what is wrong or right with the club. The fact he's received the abuse on social media is abhorrent but in my eyes still shouldn't make him elevated now to be beyond criticism. Yes a few chances were missed by others in the team but he is there and is paid to be the one to put away those chances and he didn't yet again. He is quite simply not good enough at this level of football and is certainly not good enough to lead the line which is something that isn't his fault it's the fault of dyche picking him in that position in the first place.
