2023/24 Neal Maupay

Scored 37 goals in 85 games for Brentford. Be it in the Championship.
Almost unbelievable after his performances here.
Maybe they know something we don’t or its a different Neil Maupay

I hope we've not missed another trick here. Maupay since he arrived has been played out of position and most people will realise that, asking a bloke of that stature to do a Calvert Lewin role was ludicrous and made him look truly horrible.

OK, it was only Doncaster but his cameo playing in behind Beto looked well fine to me, he looked sharper than I'd ever seen him in our shirt buzzing around behind a big proper 9 in a no10 role. He's then gone the day after. I think there's more to this player than our backroom staff managed to extract. Time will tell.

His performances are a direct reflection of the poor coaching of Lampard & Dyche.

The most basic football go'er can see that it's mental to expect Neal to have played the same way that Dom has/can.

I can't get over Pickford et al, just hoofing it up to him, even if instructed to do it, you should be smart enough to realise not to do it.

I agree with your last part, but just going by GOT I don't think he had many fans on here. All he got was ridicule. Maybe Brentford will get more out of him, so a transfer fee at the end? Good result for both parties.

Good points, but when he has had clear goal-scoring chances, he has either hit row z, or feebly rolled it back into the goalies arms.

He's an awful forward.

…it’s ludicrous to think a striker at this level does not have basic back-to-goal technique, it’s ludicrous to think a striker at this level has difficulty running the channels or linking play. If you want to see an Everton player of that stature with outstanding technique, watch some clips of Peter Eastoe.

Strikers love the challenge of playing the lone striker role because it plays to their skill set and they know their team mates are dependent on them.

To suggest Maupay is being played ‘out of position’ when selected as a striker is daft, even if he’s more effective playing off a conventional no9. Maupay doesn’t possess basic technique, physicality and application to trouble PL defenders. He’s just not good enough and was a dreadful acquisition.

He has never played this role in his entire career so has every other club he’s played for used him incorrectly too? Or is he just a bad footballer?
