It’s made but if he’d have done his job and scored/assisted some goals the fans would’ve really liked him

See also: Michael Keane who’s job it is to stop the opposition from scoring goals but instead often helps them score

Thing is, I don’t recall him getting specific sustained abuse, he just got the usual moans and groans when he inevitably cocked up.

Not sure this footballer life is the one for you if you can’t handle that, Neal dear boy.
Maybe he was a member of this super forum and viewed his player thread :coffee:

Good chance of that, he didn’t play much footy so would have had a bit of spare time on his hands.

Again, it sure that the footballers life is for him, if that’s the case.

Well if he was an actual footballer we'd be on 10 points now after the hearing so yeah, cheers Neal, go read a book and pretend you're proper clever.

He got the most stick I can ever recall any Everton player getting, ever.

Was he crap? Yes
Did he underperform? Yes
Did he have some mitigating factors - around Everton setting him up to fail by trying him as a number 9 when he's never that? Yes
Did fans help or hinder him? Hinder. No question.

Lunacy this.

Also why did Brighton and Brentford both play him as a number 9 if he isn’t one?

1 goal in 39 Premier League games, but Everton fans are the issue?

I agree mate. This thread alone is testament to it.

He played for Brentford in the Championship, and he was never the number 9 at Brighton that we would try him at.

I said repeatedly before we signed him that he was never a number 9. Never in a million years a replacement for Calvert-Lewin - a useful player around a target man.

Anyone with half a footballing brain can see we weren't playing Maupay to his strength.

Basically, this;

The most basic football go'er can see that it's mental to expect Neal to have played the same way that Dom has/can.

I can't get over Pickford et al, just hoofing it up to him, even if instructed to do it, you should be smart enough to realise not to do it.

He was directly and consistently abused by our fans - a lightning rod for frustration at our situation.

Those who would abuse him and almost take glee in saying how crap he was should reflect on whether that is helpful.

25 goals in 43 at Brentford
10 goals in 37 at Brighton
8 goals in 33 at Brighton
8 goals in 32 at Brighton
1 goals in 27 at Everton
1 goals in 6 at Brentford.

Time will tell that Everton setting him up for failure was the issue for Maupay, yes.

The fella literally missed 6 open goals before we loaned him out this season.

That has nothing to do with him not being a number 9 or Everton fans.
