Said it before a million times, playing well under the most extreme circumstances is what makes a top sportsman. The pressure of playing at Everton is lightyears different to that at Brentford.

Truth is some footballers just suit certain clubs, tactics etc. The same goes for managers. When you can't afford guaranteed class (as is the case with most of the league) it's basically a lucky dip as to whether a new player or manager works out or not.
