Chong said why they are buying it.
"For a new sporting development"

I.e. they want to put an indoor arena there
He didn’t say that. He said “sports-led redevelopment.”

What point he was trying to make is a little unclear from the quotes.

Firstly, referring to the stadium and associated development in Liverpool:

“We are at least five years ahead of any other competitor, for my mind, any spare cash from central government should be going to support development in Liverpool, before it goes anywhere else, because it is an oven-ready opportunity for sports-led redevelopment.”

So he’s introduced the term “sports-led redevelopment” there to refer to the wider regeneration with the stadium as the anchoring catalyst.

He then went on to say:

“Our new ownership has tasked me with looking for a sports-led redevelopment that could be accommodated on Nelson Dock, and maybe even further if we can get the right partners to invest.

He’s using the same term there. I think by sports-led he’s again referring to the stadium being the thing that’s leading the associated redevelopment.

I don’t think there’s going to be another indoor arena on Liverpool’s waterfront. I don’t think this is evidence of that, anyway.
