I know someone at Dixon Baxi who worked on the rebrand (https://www.dixonbaxi.com/work/everton).

Their intention was never for the tower to replace the crest; their literal quote, "The Tower coexists with the crest".

However, apparently after they handed over the new brand guidelines to the club, Everton's internal creative team largely ignored them and have run riot over the last few years. So who knows.

Just thought about this and perhaps that's one of our branding problems...

United - red devils, Brentford - bees, arsenal - gunners, West ham - hammers/irons. Logos reflect that. Easy. Joined up.

Everton - the toffees but with Rupert's tower. No connection. No toffee branding (perhaps rightly?)
I love our tower... Also our heritage - 1878, even the badge form (for me has a sheriff feel to it, which supports the tower contact).
Perhaps, the nickname is the problem?

I’m not a fan, I appreciate the historical nod but I’ve always been a bit disenfranchised with The Toffees / The Toffeemen.
Not sure what a suitable alternative might be nowadays mind or an accompanying motif from our existing badge etc
