New car advice

….just put my car in for a service, it’s 2 years old this month and has 2,100 miles in the clock. I’m normally swamped when I go into a dealership but apparently there’s a dearth of new cars available and the big demand is for used.
Petrol yes - diesel no - as the government has made them a no no - yet I remember them encouraging the public to go diesel ...

I would not trust them on electric cars either as the sustainability is unknown .....
I purchased mine last year they are about 7-8 years old petrol low mileage - looking now they have gone up in 12 months £6-800 in value - another con I feel is the dealership demand a service every 12 months even though my mileage is low, so I just get a mechanic friend who is highly qualified to do the basic service which I got quoted £140 - he did the same service for £60 ......plus checked the under neath tyres etc .... both cars past the MOT first time ..... Services used to be on mileage now they are computerised for a warning light to comes on - a right con imo .....even your local garage is cheaper than a dealership ......

Hello knowledgeable patrons of GOT,

Currently got a Renault Captur (diesel) as the family runaround but my commute has recently changed from an hour to twenty minutes so I want to get a petrol car.

Any recommendations? Want something that's cheap to run, comfortable and big boot preferably. I'll most be doing 20/30 minutes journeys in it.

Also, if I'm going to sell mine, has anyone used Cazoo? They've given me a reasonable quote to buy mine but has anyone ever dealt with them?

Cheers in advance.
Sold two cars to Cazoo. Very simple. Good price and the money was in my account before the car was on the back of the trailer.

Good to hear. How discerning were they? Did they try and knock the quote down and haggle?
Not at all. I got offered £4400 by the garage I was buying a new car from for a Vauxhall Viva. Cazoo paid £6000 with no quibbles. The other car was a Juke that they paid £8300 for whilst the garage offered £6800. I would just recommend being honest about the condition and give the car a good clean.

That screams, "Do not buy Cazoo shares" to me mate. Fair play for getting decent deals mind.

Get one with 4 wheels.

Check for sawdust in the gearbox.

Other than that I can't help with modern cars apart from saying they're all bloated and too big.
The below actually happened to me.

When I went to buy my first cheap car, I asked to see under the bonnet of one I liked.

I genuinely had no idea about how things should look but I knew the half eaten kebab and chips shouldn't have been there.

When I was a young lad I'd go to look at a second hand car armed with a magnet to hunt out filler. Now every car resto program on TV seems to use a minimum of 50 percent Bondo

Škoda Octavia or Fabia petrol 1.2 TSI - a VW really so comfortable seats plus a spare wheel plus power plus comfort ;)
