Oh wait...

They spent £330m+

It's not rare for teams to get promoted, spend buttons and survive a season or two on momentum.

Wolves had the money but evidently, with 45 points and the worst football in the league - the wheels come off.

"But, but, but - Nuno finished 7th?! He got them into Europe"

Who cares?

So did Koeman at Southampton finish 7th and qualify for Europe with us. That worked out well.
Net spend of 150 mil though. Not bad really

This has been done already. They didn’t “dismantle” us, it was one of the worst games of football that’s ever been played up until we gave them a soft penalty in first half stoppage time. Then they scored from a free kick hoofed into the box 30 seconds into the second half and it was game over. They didn’t exactly play the scintillating football that people have convinced they did just because they look at a score line and see 3-0.

Im sure the post match summary from the time probably said differently on here when people were tearing into Ancelotti and probably bigging up how good Nuno and Wolves were. I’m sure I’d look back it won’t be ‘crap game from both teams that they edged thanks to a few poor goals’

and who do you want for context because the selection of managers available to us is hardly glistening.

Said loads of times mate I've no clue.

Also have every sympathy with the millionaires trying to find other millionaires to come and do a job for millions.

I think they will have tried for elite/title winners - Conte types - there's not many of them available or indeed, willing.

After that, I'd sooner we were brave and went more wildcard than someone who has done 'meh'. Koeman, Silva, Allardyce, Martinez... and now Nuno Santo.

Would of course love nothing more than to quote myself in a year or so and look like a right tit - but I just can't blag it that he's a good appointment. I just see nothing in him. I was made up when he was about to sign for Palace until they give him the bum's rush.

Exactly how I feel, but with added Mendes can do one too.

I think they would have settled on Potter.

I was hoping for Galtier, but he never seemed to be seriously in the reckoning.
Honestly tho every manager mentioned on here someone has reservations, none stick out imo, even the one you mention galtier, got to say that French league is championship standard at best imo

I thought counter attack was the reason we were winning away and not at home - it would seem to be something that suits our current squad more.

Go on then, have a look back. Because that’s exactly what it was.

So you'd be happy with finishing 7th with Nuno Santo.

But you said Ancelotti saying 7th last season would be success was rubbish?

Ok mate.

To be clear...

As things stand I'd be absolutely happy with Nuno Santo and finishing 7th (I'd be happy with almost anyone and 7th to be quite honest) given our recent history

Ancelotti did not say finishing 7th last season would be a success. He said that going into the last game with a chance of finishing there was a success (despite finishing 10th). That's the bit which is rubbish

Happy to clear this up

I mean you could look back at any match thread and you wouldn't see gushing compliments about the opposition, you would see disparaging remarks.... For every single opponent. Not sure this is the zinger you think it is unfortunately, buddy.

For starters he won the league, holding off PSG was no mean feat, but I basically agree with your point on the standard of the competition.

He has a reputation for staying with clubs, building something with them through bringing kids in and that's something EFC have been woeful with.

I hate the Nuno appointment because, first and foremost, the club will become another vehicle for Mendes' clients.

7th was seen as progress if Ancelotti had achieved it, now it’s seen as not good enough if Nuno actually does it with us utterly bizarre.

It would have been progress under Ancelotti.

It would be progress under Nuno Santo.

Ancelotti had credentials to suggest that was progress though and not the end result.

Fans wanted Koeman sacked - 6 games into a new season on the back of qualifying for Europe in 7th place. In fact, after the 7th game, Moshiri was issuing a statement of confidence and he was sacked after 9.

Finishing 7th being lavished as credentials for Nuno Santo to be Everton's manager is daft.
