Everton, Palace and Spurs’ top brass right now when they can’t get a single manager nailed down:

Like I said previously Benitez is not the man for the job. For obvious reasons.

But he won those trophies. In the same way Tuchel deserves credit for CL this season, or Hansi Flick deserved credit for taking over a very talented Bayern team mid-season and winning a treble.

I also don’t get the style of football argument. He’s a pragmatic manager who sets up his team to have a strong defensive shape. It’s that approach that brought him success and at times in his career has meant he could build teams that were greater than the sum of their parts.

Rafael Benitez ticks a number of boxes for what is required in the new manager. Don’t agree with the mental gymnastics to down play this. He’s still not the right man for the job because he won’t get backing from the fans. Not just that it’ll be a divisive and counter productive appointment.
I think the board has to be careful here. If the club believes Benitez is the best candidate for the job, then they should appoint him, own the appointment, and do their level best to make it work. They need to take responsibility - why else have a board?

Also, this idea of taking account of what "the fans" think is only reasonable if the fans are right. In other words, what if "the fans" are wrong? I am not dying on Rafael Benitez Hill, but if he is the best qualified and most experienced candidate for the job, the board needs to appoint him or come up with somebody very close indeed to his overall level of suitability. Of the, apparently, viable contenders, Benitez has certainly had the most impressive CV. If that is one of their main criteria - and it usually is for senior jobs in serious operations - then either appoint him or eliminate him and move on to the candidate that is, in their view, "the best fit". This means understanding your values and mission. I'm really not sure Moshiri and co care about our values and mission - other than to move into a new stadium and make a fortune at some point in the future.

I'd be pretty concerned that the board decides Benitez is clearly the best man for the job and then quake in the face of vocal opposition from a section of the fanbase. Why? It means they'll appoint someone who was not their choice and can turn around, should they wish, and "blame the fans" for when it goes tits up. That's not beyond our lot.

Basically, Moshiri is overseeing utter dysfunction at the top of the club. He needs to take responsibility and start owning his decisions - and those of his board. And they need to act collectively - or go.
