Difficult not to agree with the sentiment of this by Balague even if you don't agree that Benitez forms part of the answer for us...

"It's a turning point for Everton and for owners Moshiri but mostly Usmanov. Two forces are at play and fans should consider that - those that want nothing to change and in fear of it, and those - the ambitious Usmanov included - that feel club needs an impulse from top to bottom.

"That is why they keep chatting to Benitez, who will not be scared to push the club towards a modern methodology to match more successful sides. That is the real choice - for the club and for the fans. Which side are you in? Ambitious owner? Or everything to stay put?"
That Balague is a bellend?

Let's put to one side his clearly flawed argument, because it's the least interesting point in the series of Tweets. Balague is TIGHT with Rafael and has been in his camp on this since Ancelotti moved on. If he says Usmanov is chatting with Rafael then it as good as confirms what most suspected.
I see nothing from Rafael’s body of work over the past 10-15 years to suggest that he’s the man to shake things up or kick us on though.

I’m genuinely not arsed about the RS connections. He’s finished and looking for an easy job close to home.

IMO Usmanov being on board or not doesn't really matter anymore. Moshiri and him have shown themselves to be clueless in their decision making plus we can't spend big anyway due to current financial fair play regs, and it doesn't look like we're going down the route of "spend what we want anyway and take whatever punishment comes our way".

So getting a washed up RS that the fans will hate will push Everton forward… don’t think so

If you define backing managers who the majority of fans were in favour of before they failed or buggered off "clueless"...I'd hate to know what having a clue looks like

I didn't say today was 90 minutes. I said today is running longer.

Nuno had 2 interviews and was believed to have been waiting for an offer, it never came, but they are still interested in him, they just never had as advanced talks as what they have had with Rafael, at the moment he is looking like plan b.

Rafael has had/having 5 interviews, which is very unusual, but can only be seen as very advanced discussions.
Very advanced. 5 ?? I've known married couples that have met less than 5. If it's 5, 4 have been should we, dare we and 5 was nah sorry we've had dirty bed sheets up last night.....we will pass.

I've been thinking about this idea too. Like you say, Rafael may not be the choice to deliver this but...

We go for Nuno you couldn't see him being ruthless with the squad, you can see him giving everyone a shot to fit his playing style. Additionally the transfer side of things which seems exceptionally dodgy with Mendes and the reliance/links to Portugal. Also, does he hold the weight to make big decisions?

Rafael you could see making massive changes and not being scared to do so.

Now...that's not advocating Rafael or Nuno. Insert any manager linked or available and put the same questions to them.
