Sure no worries.
I think the board realise there is risk with Benitez, but that risk can be summarized as "Being hated and not accepted by the majority of the fanbase".
Now if you then look at his record and his experience the risk level is low. He's available with no compensation to pay so again low risk
His family are close so there's no living in hotels or missing his family so again the risk is low
So with risk you have a number of choices:
1. Mitigate
2. Accept
3. Avoid
In relation to fan hatred thing. The board don't give a flying one about what we think so they would happily accept the risk given the benefits he could bring. They could avoid the risk altogether and hire someone else - but again each candidate will carry a certain element of risk with them
I like this rational approach to this mate, I don't like the fact of what's happening, but this is a rational approach.
I think the main risk when looking at this has got to be to do with attendance within the ground, especially when pushing for a larger stadium. Attendances go down which would surely have a knock on effect.
I wonder if the pandemic has made the club think this is easier to do as reduce capacity won't show the sheer idiocy of this appointment with footfall.
Fans have every right to be emotional about this imo, you're right though, the board are going to be less so - however with DBB and Kenwright I would have thought the "fan" would have a voice and say he wouldn't be ever accepted which might lead to the above scenario.
