Not meant as a personal attack on you so please don't take it that way but you would have to be absolutely daft to think that Benitez doesn't have a SIGNIFICANT amount of risk. Theres nothing "safe" about this appointment. And if all we are looking for is "safe" then there are loads of OTHER managers who wouldn't be anywhere near as divisive as Benitez. Tony fn Pulis ffs.
Sure no worries.

I think the board realise there is risk with Benitez, but that risk can be summarized as "Being hated and not accepted by the majority of the fanbase".

Now if you then look at his record and his experience the risk level is low. He's available with no compensation to pay so again low risk
His family are close so there's no living in hotels or missing his family so again the risk is low

So with risk you have a number of choices:

1. Mitigate
2. Accept
3. Avoid

In relation to fan hatred thing. The board don't give a flying one about what we think so they would happily accept the risk given the benefits he could bring. They could avoid the risk altogether and hire someone else - but again each candidate will carry a certain element of risk with them

Potter - I dont think we can approach Potter unless his club give permission (Fall out from the Silva fiasco)
Lampard - bombed at Chelsea after spending a shedload on players and then saw those same players lift the CL with Tuchel
Favre - Going to CP so no longer relevant
Rangnick - Strange one - I hope they interviewed him - not sure if they actually did or not
Emery - Too costly to prise from Villareal and also bombed last time out in PL with Arsenal
Kovac - yup good shout, don't quite understand why we heard nothing - maybe he wasn't interested?
Mancini - Just signed extension with Italy until 2026 - will be leading Italy to next WC and beyond. SO never going to happen

Think that's harsh on both Lampard and Emery.

Frank finished 4th and got to an FA cup final and then another kneejerk from Roman gifted Tuchel the Champions league.

Emery went 22 games unbeaten and was a bit unlucky to finish 5th after that mental end of season slump.

Can't see us getting either of them like, but I would be made up with them. Maybe that's the boards thinking? Spread this BS about Rafael and then hit us with an uninspiring manager who suddenly seems amazing after being resigned to the FSW for 3 weeks.

Emery is a really good manager who made a mistake in going to Arsenal.
He would have done well at Everton.
