Can we all sack off labouring on the small club comment? It was an inflammatory comment made in the face of drawing to a team that out-arlarsed his team and should have won on the day with Johnson's chances. Lots of managers are sore losers, I do not care. Especially now given we're about 15 years on from that and actually a smaller club.

At the end of the day, if Benitez gets the job, we back him. I actually give him credit for thinking he can handle the job with his connections not only to them but the city.

If this fails, make no mistake all of our ire should be focused firmly on the board.

people have they’re own views

you can back him

i won’t and
countless others won’t

it’s a preference

I'm not encouraging people to hurl abuse though.

I'm saying if people want to give him stick, criticise him etc they are within their rights too.

If he apologises properly for what he has said, I might revise that a bit, but until then I can understand peoples frustration.

Benitez controls what happens really. If he properly apologises for his mistakes then it will go a long way IMO, and I hope he does that.
Major speech when or if appointed, this appollogy is got to be a given if he thinks he's got a chance to win supporters over, maybe burn a Liverpool flag also lol

Seems daft then to give a poor manager whos already split the fanbase and wont complete 12 months a contract of 3 years at £8m a year

Well if you would have said to me 12 months back that David Moyes would finish 6th with West Ham over Carlo Ancelotti's Everton I would have laughed in your face.

In other words lets see what the fella can do next season before crying that we are already relegated...

Say Benitez does a good job here though?

Say we appoint Potter or Howe instead and we finish 16th?

Surely all that matters is results on the pitch?

I didnt want Benitez but ffs lets wait and see how we do the first few months before crying when the alternatives to Benitez aint any better.

People live in the now though, and they're just reacting to what is going on, maybe a good start to the season will calm people down but it's a massive gamble from the board

How does he do that mate? Thet are on contracts you know. Why is this not obvious with people who keep spouting drivel

By telling them they are not part of his plans. Provided Moshiri backs him in the transfer market, buy players in their positions and make it perfectly clear they have no future at the club. If they choose to stay and pick up their wage so be it, just do not have them near the first team squad.
A manager with a backbone can make it perfectly clear whether they are part of the squad or not.

I mean you don't have to wave a Rafael banner lad but if it goes tits up just remember he was set up to fail to fail by a tone deaf ownership

Unbelievable that people can sit there from their perch instructing others to back the manager, when we are talking about a man who has cynically and shamelessly successfully lobbied/conned Usmanov/Moshiri just so he can secure himself another cushy number.

the majority can see what Benitez’s real motivations are and add to that his past associations and failures it’s no wonder we are disgusted
Totally agree mate. Criminal the way he's manipulated the club into offering him a contract. I heard he hypnotized Moshiri with Shankly's old pocket watch in the Hot Wok. Disgusting really.

What frustrates me a bit is the tone policing. Like you shouldn't go to the game if you're not happy with the appointment. On what basis?

I'm actually quite agnostic on it, I'm not as angry as most, but it's really not my place to start having a pop at people who are angry about it. I fully understand why. It is entirely Benitez's fault for that, and entirely at his doorstep to repair that damage. In some ways I hope for once in his life, he actually reaps what he sows a bit, and gets a flavour of what people actually think of him and his behaviour outside of the cosy little bubble he has.

Like if fans want to go and shout stick at Benitez, go for it. He could dish it out quickly enough so he cant complain when he gets a bit back. I wont be doing so, but good luck to those who feel they want to.
99% in agreeance , just the part of it is entirely Benitez's fault.
We all know the history behind him and the way he's is revered across the park.

But the fault which is overlooked by almost all of us firmly lies at the feet of Ancelotti , he sucked us in made out we where special to him & ruthlessly dumped us at the
1st opportunity.
All the summer plans that where put it motion where left in tatters .
Massive set back for the club that will probably take a full season to get over.

We felt bad , god knows how Moshiri & his mate felt , terrible betrayal.
I can now only see why they would want him , he is experienced knows the league and unlikely going to jump ship.
Safe appointment , I would say so.

Still wouldnt be my choice , but then again I'm just a supporter and its not my money.

Its not though.
You have labelled him deceitful. Not a decent person. Manipulative.

Of course you care. Your saying his personal conduct has been so poor he's not randomly brought up an apology about a comment he made despite there being no relevant need to bring it up. Like what situation could possibly have happened for him to bring it up in the last 15 years?
Well he was asked on sky 2 years ago and answerred with an embarrassing lie.

Is it being leaked or is it just paper talk though?

We've not been linked with any big signings so far that I'm aware of. Understandable given the debacle we find ourselves in of course.
That's because we have to put our money aside for the multi-million pay-off for Benitez and his team that they will have in their contracts
