We literally just finished 31 points above relegation. 31 points. But now you would have us believe that avoiding relegation is a laudable achievement with the exact same squad. Presumably you thought the only thing keeping us up was Bolasie and Besic's presence on the training ground.

P.S. Moshiri clearly considers Benitez to be a "Hollywood manager", so is he insane?

Edit - just realised you only joined this month, now I understand where your views come from.
Whilst I agree we shouldn’t be going down with this squad we also shouldn’t get too blasé about our PL position- geordies, villa, leeds and West Ham have all been relegated in the sky money era and given our paucity of trophies they’re probably our peer group nowadays.

A few more iwobi standard signings and it could become a live issue

Every day this goes on, it becomes more and more farcical.

He's an out of work manager, there is no complex negotiations with clubs or other parties, he is desperate for the job.

Whats the hold up, what type of James Bond type production could they be doing for the announcement. If am honest, I badly don't want Benitez it makes me feel slightly ill the thought of him managing us, however right now I am more fuming at the sheer incompetence of the club in this whole thing. If its another manager and they are waiting fine, but the longer they let this drag out and it is Benitez, the club are going to look much worse then they are.

Some communication either way would probably help.

They are waiting for the fume to blow over, either that or Moshiri is in about two or three minds about it and is waiting in the hope some other Hollywood manager will become available.

If FSW comes in and, as expected, is a boring dirge then I can blame him for still being 10th or lower at Christmas.
If he’s then sacked I’m wondering who we got to then at that latest reset.
Maybe a young up and coming manager…. (ground hog day) or Mourinho….

If he wins something then great,

He will win something asiaasia82. He always does. Just hope its not that pointless league Cup which is soon to be scrapped

People banging on that this lad has had the inside scoop. Just shows how absolutely incompetent we are, he might be guessing sure, but it also doesn't surprise me we are that rubbish tbh.

I don't expect top 4, I also don't expect bottom half. We finished top half with this squad this season and you keep telling everyone that there will be further investment, so why should we accept a finish lower than this season? Could it be that you think our incoming manager is not very capable?
I think that is about right, we won't be top four but we certainly should not be bottom half.
In the season gone by we were in the shout for the Europa league up to the last couple of games and on the periphery of the CL chase all season without ever being good enough to get there.

The near collapse at the end of the season scuppered any hope of Europe.
Nevertheless , whoever the new manager will be he is walking into a good core of players such as Godfrey, Pickford,Doucoure, Allan, DCL, Richarlison and Digne..... I am guessing that James won't be here.

There are some more who can do a job and will be very useful squad members in Coleman, Holgate, Keane, Davies and Mina.

There are young players in Branthwaite,Nkonkou,Onyango and Gordon who may force their way into the managers thoughts.

The addition of three or four players could improve the first team substantially and if we do get those players in then certainly we need to be looking at top six or else we are just treading water.

We would, we did, the RS wouldn't dream of having him as their manager.

Why would they? They are consistently playing Champions League football, winning trophies and only won a league title two seasons ago. They could demand a top manager.

We haven’t played one minute of European football in about 6 years or something nearly now. We swap and change managers every 18 months, couple of defeats at home and the manager has lost the fans and we have accumulated a squad of mostly bang average players who are happy to churn out half arsed performances mostly.

We got very lucky getting Carlo in the circumstances we did but overall he didn’t do a great job, especially in those last 5 months. Nobody of significance is going to drop their kecks and come begging for a job here. We are a circus of a club. Best we’ll get are those we have rightly been linked with. Even Spurs are struggling.

He’s got nothing to lose, a nice wage and if he fails the supporters will be mostly blamed

Thing is I don't think the fume will blow over, if anything the club dragging it out is making the situation much much worse imo.

The only real logical explanation I could come to (if we aren't absolutely incompetent) is we are waiting for someone else and Benitez is the fallback option.

The reality is, we are much more incompetent, because as much as no-one wants Benitez - the club are arl arses if its not him and letting this escalate.

Yeah but they can attract anyone, we cant, unfortunately this job is not a draw, Moshiri and Brands, the likes of Potter and Bielsa would be crazy to come here to sort the mess out.
Just like at how few players we have at the Euros, the squad is awful
We might as well have BFS back, in that case. He'd be cheaper than Benitez and we'd end up with the same dirgeball and the same league outcomes. Amazingly, he'd be a less controversial appointment. Obviously, I'd rather go and watch Marine than have to watch another BFS side (I stopped going to the game and cancelled my Sky subscription when he was manager) but I feel exactly the same way about Benitez. He's a no risk, no reward option on the playing side, I'd rather take some risks. He is not low risk on a fan relations basis and whether you like him, hate him, don't care one way or the other about him, only an ostrich would say it is not causing problems at the club. You may disagree with peoples reaction to his appointment but that doesn't mean it is not happening and, sooner or later, we will have to deal with that. Not worth it to finish 14th (as some pro-Benitez supporters have said would be a reasonable outcome from his appointment).

Real Madrid, Chelsea, Liverpool, Valencia, Napoli and Inter all with better squads than our current crop.

And Newcastle with worse.

I didn't mention relegation or that avoiding relegation was laudable achievement-are you just making stuff up to troll people and pick fights?

He won’t win anything.
He won’t bring in the top players we need as his pull is limited nowadays.
We would be better getting younger players like Leeds have, hungry to prove themselves in the PL, not the washed up ‘has been s’ that he’s signed 2 times before.
