The owners believe he is another ‘name’ manager in the same way they thought of Koeman - and are pressing ahead with this disaster because of that and in spite of the level of animosity and ill will that will naturally be generated.

Not even sure benitez is a name anymore on the face of it doesn't look like he has been refusing loads of offers ,spurs are on there 9th possible manager and they've not approached him

There is too misplaced anger around this club at present. Usmanov/Moshiri/Benitez the devils whilst Kenwright/Brands/Ancelotti the saints.

This doesn't make much sense really.

Loads of anger at two people who are not part of the club and treating another person not at the club as a Saint (which isnt even true anyway).

but at least we seem to be getting somewhere in trying to establish your thought process - the board have decided that he is the choice therefore he must be the best choice available.

Who has said Benitez is the best named manager around? The board? Can they be trusted? I can pull names out of a hat as well but I do know that at least 2 possibly 3 of those names would do as good a job as Benitez - get us mid table. That’s all they need to do to be considered a massive improvement.

….the club pay people lots of money to know the global market & find the right manager, folk on here have opinions.

The appointment of Ancelotti & the links with Benitez suggest (to me) that the club want safe rather than progressive. Stability.

I just don’t think the club should entertain Benitez because of his record of publicly belittling us. I actually think he’s a decent manager but we should retain some self-respect and not employ him.
