It wouldn’t surprise me if there were tensions between brands and Ancelotti over recruitment. I’m not sure ageing CL players on massive wages are brands’ bag. Mind you I’m not sure what is!
A possibility. There was the Koulibaly talk this offseason and maybe Brands stamped his foot down and said it wasn’t sustainable to keep spending like that on aging players.

For a side that finished 10th place, I’d have to agree with Brands albeit Carlo might have done something if we’d gotten his targets. But damn if we missed out on champs league yet again that might have been the end of us and Carlo

Not sure I buy that unless they are specifically talking about this upcoming window. We got two of his targets last season and then some with Godfrey. And Allan certainly doesn’t have resale value so we took the risk for him.
I know what you mean, but I think that's potentially pretty dysfunctional in itself. It wouldn't be that weird if a manager was saying look either sign the players i want, or sign the players you want, but signing a mixture of the two isn't a good idea.

We need players on an upwards trajectory career wise and hopefully the same with the manager.

Ive said this for months about that Josh King deal, i reckon Brands got him and that was the main reason he got no game time, not just because of his ability

My take is that I tend to agree with Brands that it isn’t sustainable to run a club that way (if not signing multiple aging players on silly money is Brand’s line of thinking).

I think we brought in Carlo to see if he was a miracle worker, but unfortunately he wasn’t. There was promise, but that all came to a halt the second injuries started to surface. And two of the oft injured players were Carlo’s aging targets.

It was probably best for both parties concerned if true to part ways.

I hope whoever replaces Ancelotti is able to work constructively with the board in terms of recruitment.

Well i reckon they can but they have to be on the same wave length as Brands, but could he be part of the problem? i dunno, but i do think he will be backed

A roller coaster goes up and down. We're more of a slide
Here’s our season after winning at anfield

The issues here are so well flagged that it doesn't take a professional manager to identify them.

Of course its not as easy as that, but any ambiguity in the relationship between manager and DOF has to be sorted out.

A good candidate will want that sorted during the discussions, its every bit as important as contract length, player targets etc.

This appears to be Brands' first real go at leading an appointment, and regardless of my opinion of him to date, that's a good thing for him, for the club, and for the person who ultimately gets the job this time.

We would look massively hypocritical if we did this. Koeman and Silva were both 'poached' from smaller clubs and we had a good old laugh at Watford fans when they turned up at Goodison with their toy snakes.

Like it or not, there is an order of merit in football, and any ambitious manager will jump at the opportunity to manage a club higher in that order, regardless of their contract or how long they have been at a club. We know that, and have used it to our advantage plenty of times. We have also seen it in action with Moyes and now Ancelotti. We can't pick and choose when it applies.
Good point well made

Ideally there wouldn't be a huge gap between manager and DOF

Spot on. Though I’d argue we mainly used it to our disadvantage with Ronnie and Marco.
