Ideally there wouldn't be a huge gap between manager and DOF
Yeah definitely, but i'm not sure that was the case here. If you take Godfrey as an example, he's theoretically a good signing for the long term future of the club, but you can imagine Ancelotti saying why've you spent £20m+ on a centre half whose main attribute is pace when I don't want to play a high line etc. I don't know what went on but it's not too hard to imagine the process being a bit dysfunctional.

Whoever we sign, I’d like to see us try and fix the academy. Whether it be removing Unsworth, sacrificing those PL2 titles for players with more potential and preparing them for first team footy over PL2 success with dinosaur footy, I’d like to see us comfortably bring players into the team as opposed to acquiring a Tom Davies every odd 5 years.

The issues here are so well flagged that it doesn't take a professional manager to identify them.

Of course its not as easy as that, but any ambiguity in the relationship between manager and DOF has to be sorted out.

A good candidate will want that sorted during the discussions, its every bit as important as contract length, player targets etc.

This appears to be Brands' first real go at leading an appointment, and regardless of my opinion of him to date, that's a good thing for him, for the club, and for the person who ultimately gets the job this time.
In a DOF i though it was the DOF who buys the players and picks the coach to match the DOF model
Everton seem to be a mix of Young players, loads of crocked or rubbish older players and nothing much in between, with no style.
The only thing our squad has is no pace
What’s our preferred formation, what’s our best team
Brands has been here 3 years and has done almost nothing he said he would.
He said if u want a quick fix find someone else, isn’t it time he started fixing

I'd just say the process is dysfunctional. That's what needs fixing more than anything with who gets hired now.

1st thing the next manager needs to do is find out who the fans like and don’t and sell them(sounds easy I know) sounds stupid but a good way to win the fans over
Then he needs to get rid of the boys club(Fergy/Unsworth and so on) an find actual top coaches instead of ex players.

Can see him having around 100 mil to spend
Rich-60 min
Kean-40 mil
James-10 mil

then he needs to offload
Sigi
Gomes
Iwobi
Bernard
Delph

Then bring in 4-5 players and bring in a few younger players from the academy if there is any.

Non of that will actually happen and we be stuck with a manager who aged 50 years and gone after Christmas
Not sure if you are being serious or not? You only have to read some of the player threads to see that would never work - Tom Davies for example, some think he’s the dogs nuts, other think he’s a division one player who hasn’t improved since “that” Man City game! No manager with anything about him is going to go down that route! What happens during a transfer window, would he need fan approval before he brings players in?
As I say not entirely sure if you are being serious or not :coffee: ?

Have you seen the comments attributed to Je Royle?

I think this has already been fixed.

...I really don’t get the; “preparing them for first team footy over PL2 success”.

i’m not an Unsworth supporter, but the bloke can only work with what he has. We’re not winning the FA Youth Cup at U18 level.

we
Aside from conte who isn't going to come here there aren't any more top managers available
There is a very small pool of elite managers; we should be looking for the best available candidate for the job and someone who can work effectively within the structures in place at the club. Just lashing more money at a big name won’t necessarily give us the results we want.
