Followed by a grand total of 47 points the next season with his own signings.

Give it up, mate.
I'm singing from the same hymn sheet as you: no to Roberto for me.

He gave us a go and couldn't shift the cultural dial of the club back far enough to impose a possession based game on us. And he'd have that problem again.

Some (many or even most) Evertonians seem to want a direct long ball style of play. They rejected the school of science.

Ancelotti had an unbelievable record prior to joining Everton, but look at how his spell here turned out?

Looking at it from that viewpoint is ridiculous.

With CA we were within reach of the top 4 for most of the season even with our disastrous home form, closer than we have been in many years.... Had a few results gone our way or he could actually be arsed at the end of the season it could be a very different story.

Potter is definitely best option of Premier League managers that would be available. I like his football style, he might not be up to the expectations of this fan base and he hasn't won before, but if we all want Brands to recruit for a style, then Potter would follow that lead and play an attractive style using the recruited players in such system.

I also like the idea of the job being a 'step up' for an aspiring manager, not a toy that is used as a pay day or stepping stone for an unemployed 'big name'.

Like 99.9% of you all, I have close to zero knowledge of the foreign options, and the style of play and player they like to use - so won't comment on those possibilities.

That's simply not true.

Most can see what he did here with bang average players as a miracle: getting 72 points out of those cabbages Moyes left him was unreal.

Full disclaimer is I always really liked Martinez as a person and wanted him to succeed, but it went chaotically wrong at the end. It's strange though, that probably seeing 3 or 4 have a go at it, with a lot more money and really not make a massive success have probably shifted views on some of the ex managers a bit.

It was interesting to listen to Prentice on the Echo podcast, and Prentice is by no means a Martinez supporter, but he did state that Martinez bought some fantastic players to the club including Lukaku.

The one thing I would say for Martinez and Moyes, who operated on a shoe string compared to whats followed, is both would make the money we have stretch a fair bit further than it is. I don't know if it would get us over the line, but the in thing seems to be to bring players in develop them, and sell them on, and we did far more of that before Moshiri turned up and we had a DOF.

Paulo Fonseca would bring a similar style to Roberto - only he wouldn't neglect the defense. However I suspect that ship has sailed after we chose Silva over him at the time.

It's going to be Nuno, don't think there's any doubt there.

Agree but I think CA gets credit for the wins but someone else gets the blame for the losses. His record is fact, just not good.

Yes his tenure turned out very underwhelming indeed and we were absolutely abysmal for the 2nd half of this season and played some of the poorest football i have seen in years and yet he still walked away with a 46.27 win ration which is poor by his standards but almost twice as good as Potters for a 2 year period. Maybe not too ridiculous after all then.

Better manager performs better with better players.

personally I think that the club needs to identify a syle of play and a formation to play it in. We then need to go out and get the best manager we can get that plays that style in that formation. Then go out and get all the best youth coaches that can play that style and that formation and implement it all the way through the academy.

That way when the current manager Leaves albeit through sacking or moving to a another club we can just go out and get the next manager that plays the way we play. So he'll fit in seamlessly and we won't need a completely new squad every time we change manager. Then the youth players will be able to fit into the squad and the system you know like brands did in Holland. As opposed to now where we have the academy playing completely different to the first team and then wondering why we cant get any academy players into the first team.

It seems like a simple concept to me but maybe I'm missing something, I dont know.

That's why I wouldn't be against the idea of big dunc taking over with a master tactician as an assistant like Glenn hoddle or similar. Then he can coach the team and leave the whole recruitment side to Brands. Otherwise what's the point in brands. Why is he there if a manager like ancelotti will do what he wants anyway and sign ageing players and go against the system Brands is trying to deploy.

I really don't see enough(yet) with Potter I don't doubt he is a good coach who plays good football but I would want to see a bit more than 15th and 16th placed finishes and a twenty five percent win rate for him to be appointed ... I also doubt his personality is big enough for the job myself the players/fans would eat him alive...

Nuno was interviewed over the weekend

Football. Insider.

Lash in with a massive pinch of Salt.

Would be shocked if he hasn't been interviewed mind, but in all serious I wouldn't put any weight behind Football Insider.
