New Everton Stadium - Hill Dickinson Stadium

Haven't seen that tbh. The back-tied cantilevers on the side stands might be capable of some extra load, but they're probably not as sturdy at the goalpost trusses supporting the end roof and screens. Personally, I'm hoping that they extend the roofline at some point to give better weather protection (and atmosphere enhancement), as they did at Bilbao. Probably wishful thinking though.

That was just guess work when I viewed a video, I'm not from an engineering background so you're most likely right.

Can't remember who but they had like a canopy which can extend and make it covered completely. Might look cheap and tacky though unless done right.

Yeah I'm hoping they do the dedicated road lanes.

I read that they got rid of bendy busses because they don't do corners well,

I think the new generation can do tighter turning circles than the old bendy buses.... but the issue is that these should also come with other important step-improvements. They have more and bigger access doors, lower floors, more capacity and offboard ticketing, meaning that they have much quicker turnaround times, which is perfect for shuttle services. If operated in segregated lanes, then they will offer everything that traditional trams do..... but with faster line speeds, because rubber-wheeled vehicles have much shorter stopping distances, and in any partial segregation or near pedestrians, traditional trams have to slow to a crawl. I honestly think that these can be a better solution...... IF implemented properly!!

Tbf, it's all a bit subjective. I saw Toffee TV's Ped do a quick look around the stadium yesterday, and I think his first 10 words were just "WOW".... he was blown away by it. Similar with the TV commentators, who said it was the most impressive of the three stadia used. It also won various architectural/stadium awards. So, I think it is fair to say that in the flesh, it is probably far more impressive than in some of the images, and in anycase it is difficult to compare a 53k stadium with a 71k+ one.

The lack of symmetry and one largely open end probably jars with some people. The angular cranked corners might also be less pleasing on the eye than the more commonly used curved ones......... (but I could've used all those stadium descriptors to describe BMD). I think the large dark roof may well feel overly oppressive.... but I don't think anyone will get wet, and the ocular closing mechanism is certainly "different"...... plus that oppression might really enhance the atmosphere and form part of that "home field" advantage Meis often mentioned. I'll reserve judgement till I hopefully visit it one day (possibly next year).
Last night's stadium is hosting a WC semi next year. Those angular corners actually blocked the view of both nearside corner areas from the telly position they used last night.

It's clearly divided opinion but is also seemingly functioning well. The Falcons are sold out and Atlanta Utd have an average attendance of 46k. Thought it was interesting how they partitioned off the upper tier yesterday, a topic that has been in the stadium chats for a while now. It didn't seem obvious nor did it seem to take anything away from the occasion though I wan't there so could be different in real life.

Frankfurt?

As for the video screen, I remember Meis saying he didn't like the idea as it can distract people from actually watching the game. That was under the previous regime though so maybe the appetite has changed for more vsuals etc.

I used to like the st Louis rams, until kroenke moved them to LA. The equivalent move for Everton (in miles) would be if we moved to the northern tip of Morocco.

Yes, it seems inconceivable to our overtly tribal perspectives.

That said, maybe one day LFC's owners will move them to Cronton or a major motorway junction in Middle-England somewhere..... at least FSG could make a reasonable argument for wanting to be nearer their fanbase.

Yes the corners are slightly obscured there and also at the MetLife (which has the final next year) .... ideally, they probably need to raise the pitch at least 1m.

Wish he was as arsed about his actual job and getting the mess he has created sorted out as he is about what people will call his great white hope to fix it.

Can’t help but want to smack the fool about the head.

Oh, and commander Steve, it’s a bendy bus mate. Let’s hope they work, eh boss.

YMCA.

Tbf, these systems are getting rolled out all over the world as BRTs or the more advanced version as guided trackless trams. There are over 200 lines already, with many more planned. The issue is how well they are implemented and what new infrastructure is added to support them. If they are afforded a high degree of segregation, priority at junctions and offboard ticketing..... they will deliver MRT performance. Belfast's system offers much of that and is being expanded as a result. Leeds made a token effort with older vehicles, without any of the infrastructure etc and they failed, just as much as you would if you tried to put a merseyrail train down the middle of county road instead of on its dedicated track.

Interesting, however do we have faith they can implement them properly? I can imagine these will take years to be implemented.

I find it odd he keeps getting different firms fleets to advertise them and cover it in Mersey travel livery when we haven't even bought them yet I think?

I'll be happy if they work better as you said, surely he can't be that incompetent to get a fleet bought that don't operate well (fingers crossed).

That's it. I think Barce are getting one as well.

Meiss said he wanted to have the UK's biggest screen(s). Are they?
