New Everton Stadium

In what context? Right now? Next few years? New stadium?

EFC absolutely right not to consider it at this point. New stadium is 5 years away probably, and there's no major movement behind safe standing in the Prem. Probably 5 years away too, if ever from happening.

So no point in worrying about safe standing right now. Only stand at Goodison that would be safe enough to convert is the Park End, and why would we do that when we're moving anyways?

Because it should be factored into the stadium design now.

The quote doesn't mention the new stadium. That's an assumption. If the quote was "Everton not considering safe standing for new stadium" then that's different.

No reason why we can't plan for safe standing in private yet have a different stance to the press.

Don't get the panic - theres nothing to gain by making a statement on it. Wait until:

A) Half the Prem, including Liverpool are committing to it

B) We've announced a new stadium and can demonstrate the different seating (and potentially standing) options in the plans.

We won't do safe standing because we'll want to show some warped solidarity with Liverpool.

Times have changed since 1989. Safe standing has been utilised to great effect in Germany, and is a chance to allow for a higher capacity.
Is this the Liverpool whose fans stand en masse regularly at away games and GREATEUROPEEEEEEEANNIGHTSATANFIEEEEEEEEEELD?

The "not considering safe standing" comment came from the managers press conference. It was obviously question of the day from SKY to all managers before this weekend. Ron looked blank, didn't understand the question. Media guy from the side whispered it, manager repeated it and moved on.

It's fairly safe to say we'd not commit to being interested whilst LFC still oppose it. The Independent claim 13 clubs "interest or active commitment" whilst only LFC formally opposed. I guess we're one of the other six.

I'd be surprised if our official position didn't change as soon as LFC's did, or if the league introduce it. But I don't think the club would want to be seen as actively pushing for the change whilst their is official opposition locally.

I'd imagine that it's far too early for the decision to have any impact on any stadium plans, especially considering how easily Celtic introduced it to an existing stadium.
