New Everton Stadium

According to Daily Mail Chelsea's stadium planning meeting is next month.

Chelsea’s hugely complex planning permission for their new ground at Stamford Bridge has already led to a delay of at least a year before the club relocate for three seasons. But Hammersmith and Fulham Council have seen enough progress to stage a public meeting over the plans next month.

Unrelated obviously, but their's is massively complicated application, submitted last December. The planning committee have only now decided it's reached a stage where it can go to a planning meeting. Will be interested to see if it gets permission easily of if the club is asked to go back to the drawing board and make even more changes. But like our stadium, this again gives an idea how slow and complicated these things can get.

Seems to me that much of the problems this country faces with productivity stems from shocking council bureaucracy and red tape.

It's understandable in this case [he would say that, wouldn't he?]. Local residents need to be sure, it needs to fit in with the other buildings in the area, AND they need to get TfL on board as they plan to deck over parts of the railway to give themselves more space to build (with all the cost, disruption and security issues that brings up, especially when nuclear waste is moved on that line). This well-researched blog post (not written by me) - https://thespursreport.wordpress.co...pment-trying-to-keep-the-train-on-the-tracks/ - goes into much more detail about it all.

They've also got an added issue in that the club doesn't own the land the stadium sits on - it's owned by Chelsea Pitch Owners. But that's outside of the scope of planning. Abramovich can build without having the freehold transferred to him, but whether he'd be willing to is a different matter. That discussion is ongoing.

Anyway, one to keep an eye on as it seems to be finally moving.

I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if they try to sabotage our stadium, either by lodging spurious objections at the planning phase, or through actual damage to the building process.

They will, but for the most part wont have a clue how to do that, dont forget Peel are involved with this, while Everton might mess things up they dont, when they set out to do something it gets done.

Someone please remind me of the new, or is he not in post yet, Metro Mayor.
Naturally a Kopite, and with enhanced powers over all matters including planning and so on. Is it too early to presume he will scupper all efforts to get a move on with the hoped for project?

Unfortunately any new stadium will result in the current proximity to the pitch we enjoy being lost. I just hope that it is kept to the legal minimum.

I hope they don't pursue Fifa/uefa standards too rigorously as imo it's more important that the ground us right for EFC than attempting to tick every box for grandiose ambitions such as getting selected for Euro finals etc.

I see a lot of new stadiums eg schalke around Europe tend to be built with what almost appears to be a wall around the pitch. This might be great for advertising space but it detracts from that sense of fan closeness.

That's my point. How much of this paperwork is unnecessary red tape?
I see the spirit of Eric Pickles is alive and well - are you really that gullible.

The whole point of enterprise zones is that they simplify the planning process, but you can't just rush into any development without proper regulatory controls, most of which only came into being to address past mistakes.
