Commonwealth Games England have previously said that they want to choose between Liverpool or Birmingham for the UK's nomination by July this year. So we should all know by the summer wether the running track is a goer or non starter. Personally I will be very, very surprised if the city of liverpool gets the nomination and look forward to this thread being about our football stadium and not running tracks

Glasgow City Council had to stump up £80M toward the costs of their Games in 2014. The legacy from such events is very iffy. When you're cutting council spending on essential services it's obscene to be making that outlay - especially on second rate no mark events like the Commonwealth Games.

It's separate income Dave, this is what people need to understand. Government funding, council tax and business rates provide funding for the running of services; nothing else.

That's why the council looks for other ways of investment so that money can then be reinvested by growing the economy and driving business to the city.

its not as simple as 2+2=4. It's why they push heavy for things like the giants, soundcity etc. There's certain money within the council that is not allowed to be spent in propping up services. It goes against legislation governing councils

That date was given by Commonwealth Games England for the 2026 process, before Durban pulled out of hosting 2022. Everything's up in the air again now.

No chance imo mate we have played a blinder with the stadium, LCC and the Govt will either put a good 1/3 of the cost to cover this if they want it for the commonwealth games or either Brum will win it or we tell them we don't want it.

agreed. he is too much a lot of the time, but you learn a lot on various subjects when Dave puts down the extreme negative POV and others come back with their arguments. between both you get a good picture on lots of topics.

what doesn't work is Dave's deliberate way of writing his sometimes valid points and concerns to garner the biggest reaction, and then the other posters who respond in kind to bait Dave. that side of it is tiresome and I wish they would all give it a rest.

I wouldn't normally but I've blocked Davek as every time I saw that yellow cat I felt a depression coming on. He has some good points now and again but the negativity and repetition is like a hammer drill.

The thing that struck me about that Anderson plan for a running track is that the story wasn't carried by the Echo and neither has it been commented directly on by the tweeting architect. I think the club are leaving options open on the design and it's very much on the table. Useful idiots like Anderson are there to send up a flyer in advance of decisions to get supporters used to the idea, if that design "has to be" gone with.

The final decision on which English city will be chosen to bid for the CWG 2026 will not be taken until September 2018.
Elstone has suggested a timescale of submitting a planning application at the end of 2017.
Conclusion; the Mayor will exert substantial pressure on EFC to include a running track as part of the stadium design.
There may already be an 'understanding' there that it was contingent on getting LCC to provide the SPV financial arrangement. Who knows?
So even if Liverpool fail to be chosen we could still end up in a 'bowl' for the next 100 years.
I hope the powers that be at EFC have the foresight not to compromise the future of the club like that.
