Good things come to those who wait .
The most recent TV deals giving premiership clubs amounts of money that could not even have been dreamt about a decade ago will change the future of football and maybe Everton FC as well. Not so many years ago the level of debt at Everton would have been considered an obstacle whereas now it would barely be a consideration.
The increased funding coming into the game would allow Everton to sustain a much higher level of borrowing for any new stadium , should it be built.
Everton , with a bright shiny new stadium and the increased wealth from TV money would now be a serious proposition for anybody looking to involve themselves in world sport.
Will we get a new stadium ? I certainly believe we will...if it is at all humanly possible.
Why do I believe this ?
Because the biggest beneficiaries are Bill Kenwright and those in ownership of the club, but for others it is important too.
If a new stadium can be built with involvement from Council, partners and goodness knows who else it will drive the value of the club
into the stratosphere and the wealth of Bill Kenwright with it.
Fans want a new stadium but nobody wants it more than Bill Kenwright.
I think that Kirkby did have one hugely positive outcome. It made the council realise that there were two premiership clubs in the City
and they were not too far from losing one of them. I think the Kirkby episode made them realise that there would be other proposals in the future and one of them might succeed. How many businesses in the city have a turnover heading for 200m( over the next few years).
The council simply cannot risk losing the club from it's confines.
In time as the money into football continues to grow if a new stadium isn't provided the club may be sold to a buyer who simply wants to take money from the club and out of the City. The other option is that Everton cannot continue to compete at Goodison and eventually slip out of the premiership. This would result in the loss of huge sums of money for both Everton and Council, it would also result in a huge loss in prestige as make no mistake the rivalry that Everton and Liverpool provide is very important for the City.
There are many stakeholders in a new stadium. People tend to have a fixation on Bill Kenwright and Robert Elstone and what they think they are like.(Maybe some people know them or have met them , I expect the majority have not).
But a new stadium can revitalise a part of the city in need of a boost. It can boost the image and the coffers of the City , It can further boost
funds flowing into a successful club , Bill Kenwright as the biggest winner is a by-product rather than perhaps the main driver.
