So if Birmingham don't get the nod for the 2022 games then the possibility of the new stadium being used for athletics rumbles on....

Common Wealth games is small fry compared to the money Moshiri and his friends can make on the docks redevelopment. I believe us hosting the games at our new stadium was doing a favour for the council as we owed them one. Stadium will be purpose built for football now.

You'll see stuff before the turn of the year. Planning application is due to be in during December. There is always the possibility of images being 'leaked' before that, but I believe that before the year is out, we should have a great idea of whats going to be delivered.

The government said it wouldnt be bidding months ago didnt they? The canadian one pulled out as well.

Edit: looking into it there are quotes form the president of their Olympic council saying that they have pulled out which he later clarified.

They have no government backing at the moment

I'm not being funny here, I'm asking as I don't know.

Why would some Chinese pension fund (or wherever the funding comes from) that are about to loan us X amount of pounds over 40 years care that the City didn't host the commonwealth games 5 years into the term?

I can't see why it's relevant, unless Everton promised them sons sort of spike financial return in 2022 (only) based on an expectation of a higher financial return for that year.

Don't think the investors for the build would care one jot, but it may mean less coming in for stadium naming rights.
