New Everton Stadium

A quick method for the club coming up with the money for the stadium. All they have to do is find a horse that is 50,000/1 to win and put down £10,000 on it.

Very tedious waiting on stadium news in the internet era when a refresh of your screen has you expectant for the next update that just isn't there. Should have built it in the late 1800's when we might have been away at sea exploring new lands and getting only the occasional batch of mail with news of the new football stadium at Bramley Moore Dock, and the sailor cries of 'Where tf are we gonna park the ship when we get back'.

My point is just press refresh every 6 months or so in this thread.

:-)

What, and miss all the rumours and discussions on financing.......

Edmund: Right, so we've got sixpence.

Baldrick: Yeah, now all we need to do, My Lord, is to go down the cockfights and put it on a bird that's a dead cert but has got odds of forty thousand to one.

Edmund: Know you of such a bird?

Baldrick: No. But we could make one.

Edmund: No we couldn't, Baldrick. Oh god, I suppose you have to be told sometime. Sit down. What happens is: a mummy bird and a daddy bird who love each other very much get certain urges...

Baldrick: No, no, My Lord. What I mean is: we could get a mad wild killer bull, and disguise it as a bird, but it'll be such a strange-looking bird that no-one will back it, but we'll know it's a killer bull so we'll put money on it.

Edmund: Only we will know.

Baldrick: Yeah -- if we stick enough feathers on it and hang an egg between its legs.

Lendlease is in talks to build Everton’s £300m stadium at Bramley Moore Dock, Place North West understands.

Although the procurement process is yet to be finalised, the contractor is understood to be likely to land the scheme, which is expected to open in 2022. The club is hopeful of submitting a planning application for the scheme this year and to start on site in 2019.

Other bidders in contention are Sir Robert McAlpine and Laing O’Rourke. Gardiner & Theobald is the project manager for the development.

Bovis Lendlease was previously attached to a plan to move Everton’s stadium to King’s Dock more than 15 years ago, but these never materialised.

The latest plan for Bramley Moore Dock has been backed by Liverpool City Council and Mayor Joe Anderson. A deal to take over the site from Peel was agreed last year.

The club’s chief executive Robert Elstone admitted that costs for the project had increased significantly. Speaking in January, he said the club’s funding target had “escalated significantly” over the past year.

“The premium for the waterfront site, an ambitious capacity that we will test with more rigour, a design we can all be proud of and the simple but painful impact of inflation, have all contributed to an increased overall cost and a funding target which continues to grow.”

A deal for the land was agreed last November with Peel Land & Property. Everton has a 200-year lease on the waterfront site, which is conditional on the club gaining planning consent and securing funding for the stadium’s construction.

CBRE is advising Everton, and the consultant said it estimates that Bramley Moore will provide a £1bn boost to the local economy, with more than £255m spent through local supply chains during the construction phase.

Lendlease and Everton declined to comment.
