New Everton Stadium

You can fill the survey in now. This is one of the questions that's going to help get planning permission and push our dream of a new stadium on Bramley Moore Dock

I sort of disagree. Yeah everyone has their opinion. But the Buro Happold stadium pic which seems to be genuine, IMO looks very tacky and not really "Iconic" and all that. Hardly any better from the WHP image. It could be Sunderland's Stadium of Light. Nothing amazing.

Don't dwell on it though. As someone pointed out this is from over a year ago and plans are almost certainly have changed. As the person you quoted from said "with a blank canvas that is the best they can come up with".

Think about it. Externally it's going to be brick of some sort to blend in with the docks. An Everton version of the Lucas Oil Stadium I reckon. It won't be like that Buro Happold design. I think it's probably the very first design they come up with!

Funnily enough Meis tweeted on Lucas Oil Stadium yesterday, saying almost the opposite...

.

If I had to guess at this stage I'd say that structurally, the stadium in that render is what's being planned (it matches all the seat layout designs shown at the presentations) but that they'll spend much more time refining the exterior for the final design than what's been shown in the BH doc (which is obviously just illustrative).

Also, you say it hardly looks iconic....I might be wrong but isn't that render basically the north stand? Isn't the money shot going to be the West stand facing outwards? (my geography might be completely wrong here, happy to be corrected.)

Interesting.

I don't think he will want to beef up any love towards LOS Meis is his own man his own design. But the Buro Happold one just doesn't fit in with it having 'grew up' from the docks etc. He's used different designs the Miller Park stadium has brick outside. So I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I’m not a fan of that drawing either, my point was more that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.A lot of people on here love the brick design, others hate it. Some will love glass, others will hate it. We could come up with a design that 99% love, the other 1% will say “is that the best they could come up with”

The whole clamour for an "ICONIC" stadium is worrying because what exactly is Iconic and how much will it cost ?

Bayern Munich's ground could be considered Iconic. But I certainly wouldn't call the Emirates iconic. Or even Spurs new ground, its nice - but iconic? I don't think so. It looks like any other new ground really.

For a new stadium to be iconic it has to be instantly recognisable. Think the birds nest, Allianz arena, Wembley stadium.

Personally I cant see our new ground being at that level as I cant see that kind of money being spent, with all the good will in the world.

The main irony, for me, is that Goodison Park itself IS iconic.

You can certainly include brick and granite in a modern sleek and shiney stadium personally using both for me would be perfect. Granite and brick at the bottom to grow organically out of the dock and steel and glass at the top to look sharp.

Either way I'm glad Dan isn't a fan of the Lucas Carbuncoil and whatever he designs we're possibly lumbered with so hopefully it won't be either to far out (man) or to regressive.

I don't think you can design iconic it either is or it isn't just look at the Shard compared to the Walkie Talkie in London I bet both architects thought they had the wow factor but only the Shard has.
