New Everton Stadium

A genuine question here: how much would you estimate the required land would cost if we were to build a stadium here? It's a prime location.

Nothing as Peel already own (?) Liverpool Waters. They would probably lease the land and may even share the construction costs.

Note if they dont own it then the city council will.

That's an awful lot of supposition; I''m not being obtuse but that's why I believe an awful lot of stadium ideas are simply unfeasible or unrealistic.

Peel are openly looking for funding, mainly from China, to help fund Liverpool Waters. Would they really share the costs? Can they afford to do so?

As you mention, Peel may lease the land but at what cost as it is certainly prime land? Is it feasible in the long term? What if they do not?

That is before the actual feasibility of building a stadium in such a relatively confined space. The other side of Regent Road is 99% a no go.

Then there is the whole issue of whether a football stadium would be as financially beneficial compared to retail properties or apartments etc.

I'm not personally having a go if that's how this seems, nor am I against the idea of waterfront stadium. I'd bloody love us to be in such a position.

However, I just cannot see it as a feasible option based on our financial position and other factors. We need to look without our blue blinkers.

The Kings Dock scheme would have been amazing, yet we cannot dwell on the past.

If its so 'prime' then why have nothing happened in eight years?

They need something to kick start the show and nothing is being financially beneficial to Peel apart from someone using the waste dockland for a cinema.

Whitaker (owner of Peel holdings) said a few years ago that he had no intention of incorporating a stadium into his plans.

The idea that Everton could somehow benefit from an association with Peel is frankly laughable.

Peel's business model is to extract public funding, not provide subsidies for tenants/co-developers.

Well they wont get any from local councils nowadays and they dont get any for airport developments as they use their own cash.

In the meantime, eight years and counting (reminds you of another local company doesnt it?), nothing has happened apart from Princes Dock.

If you have a couple of hours to spare read the Exurbe Report titled "Peel and the Liverpool City Region" - very interesting and offer explanations (and more) to your comments.

99,000 at the MCG tonight for City vs Real Madrid. That's the stadium we want & we can play our home games here while Goodison is being redeveloped.... :p

Didn't hicks and Gillette have permission to build a stadium in Stanley park. If so, why can't we look in to that site. It would put the new stadium right beside Anfield but that would only lend to the whole 'football quarter' idea.
