New Everton Stadium

The only people who really care are bed wetters.
But what about the exits goat?.

WHAT ABOUT THE EXITS?.

Which bloke?

John Blain.

Spurs put in for 56,000 in its application and are now going for 60,000 for Premier League and even more
for American Football games.

No way are EFC going to end up with a capacity of 52,000; it does not make financial sense if the idea
is to become a top team again.

That the business matters podcast?

Watched that and they were spot on about the stadium - needs to be increased capacity and the board/CEO really need to sell the vision of the stadium to external investors if we are to maximise growth from the move.

Yeah, he's wrong. :D

We got planning permission for a 56,000 seat stadium, then scrapped that design and hired a completely new architect who designed a completely new stadium with a 61,000 capacity. We then had to go through the whole planning process again - it wasn't simply a matter of applying for a capacity increase on the existing planning permission!

The best you can say is that the passage of the second planning process was eased slightly because we already had planning permission for a bigger stadium on site.

It might be possible to get planning permission for a 52k stadium and later apply for an amendment to build a 60k stadium instead (although that'd be a weird way of doing things and massively risky). But that is not what we did. And it seems it's only wishful thinking that's driving the idea Everton will try that. Unless I've missed something.

It does make financial sense. Standard ticket sales now make up a relatively small component of a football clubs income. If you have a smaller stadium with the same size corporate hospitality offering of a larger version of that stadium you can save tens of millions or more on the initial construction costs with only a modest annual drop in revenue.

For the record, I'd prefer a larger capacity to get the best atmosphere on match days. But the maths makes sense for a smaller capacity from a financial perspective.

A large and vibrant spectator participation is essential for advertisers; viewers can tell the difference between a 50 or a 60,000 thousand
ground and if that ground is bouncing and atmospheric then the club can command better rates and fees. That in turn attracts a better type of player.
and the virtuous circle starts again.

Plus no major European club has a paltry 52,000 capacity.

I have no doubt that if EFC won the League and things got back to where they should be then EFC could fill a 60,000 stadium. If Moshiri wants
to be at the top then he cannot plan for the also-ran spots and a big stadium is essential. At 52,000 we would be on a par with NUFC and WHU not
MUFC or for that matter LFC or THFC.

EFC have to plan for success and that means a 60,000+ stadium.
