New Everton Stadium

Well we're into October and no one seems to be talking about the whp stadium. Aren't the club announcing something this month, what do people know? Thanks

Club have never said they'd announce something this month. In fact Robert Elstone said at the EFC Shareholders Meeting in July that there was unlikely to be any developments until April 2016 at the earliest. This was totally underreported by the local & national media at the time, as the focus (distraction?) was on the John Stones saga and pre-season starting at that time. It's in the July 2015 meeting minutes:

Update on proposed new stadium
Mr Elstone confirmed that the project continues to progress. John Blain queried if the Board had made the commitment to progress towards a Planning Application? Mr Elstone confirmed again that the Board have not yet made the decision and furthermore confirmed that the elapsed time from that decision to the formal submission of a Planning Application is likely to be 9-months. John Blain noted that it seems unlikely therefore that a Planning Application for Walton Hall Park will be made before the end of Q1 2016. This prompted a fair amount of debate about alternatives, notably the redevelopment of Goodison Park. Led for the Association by Tom Hughes it was interactive with Mr Elstone noting that whilst re-developing Goodison Park might be physically possible other (new build) options are almost certainly more viable because Goodison is difficult to make work financially (including naming rights), and the lack of development space at Goodison. Based on previous assessment, a redeveloped Goodison on the same footprint may have a reduced capacity of as low as 34,000. Mr Elstone was interested in what Tom Hughes had to say and in particular his informed insistence that the stadium could be re-developed to a higher capacity whilst maintaining its heritage. Mr Elstone confirmed that he would always be willing to review and consider any plans to redevelop Goodison Park. Commenting on the financial challenges of re-developing Goodison Park John Blain queried if the Club would be interested in working with a well backed Fans Group. Mr Elstone said that he would be interested and noted conversations in the past where the Club had worked with representative Fan Groups. However, discussions had not progressed as those organisations he’d spoken with were unable to raise necessary funding.

Mayor Joe Anderson did say on Twitter last month that he would be making a public comment on progress made at the end of October, but of course, he's not the club. I don't expect Joe Anderson's comments - if he makes any this month - to be good news. If it was good news, the club would be rushing to announce it first.

I'm sure everyone is aware of this, but it basically boils down to the club not having the money to build the new stadium, and not being able to get any/enough partners to 'support' (aka PAY FOR) the stadium build.

Yes Joe Anderson isnt the club but is the key to the land at WHP.

If he thinks he and Liverpool City Council are getting fecked about, as the club have done so in the past, then dont be surprised that WHP offer is withdrawn. The club will love that scenario too as they can, yet again, blame someone else.

That's what I mean mate. His tone in his tweet last month didn't seem to indicate he was going to deliver any good news in October.

The club clearly want LCC to give more money towards it, but the brutal truth is LCC simply don't have it, not when public services are getting cut left and right. I know they've bent over backwards for LFC, so EFC feeling aggrieved is slightly understandable, but times have changes in recent years, especially under the current government. Besides, the 'finger of blame' for lack of progress really should go to EFC and their ineptness when it comes to generating the money needed for it. EFC are unlucky in lots of ways, and other clubs have practically been gifted stadiums via public money (Man City, West Ham spring to mind), but EFC have to deal with the cards they've been dealt and act accordingly.

If that means definitively stating - "look we can't afford a new stadium, we will now concentrate on rebuilding/redeveloping Goodison "(as LFC have done with Anfield), then so be it.

The club say it isn't possible, but it is - as long as the money is there. The money may not be there to do it, but it would be a lot cheaper redeveloping Goodison than it would be building a new stadium.

Thats what the club will want you to believe and you have gone for it but it is a load of tish.

Its the lack of professionals at the club who are suitably qualified to take charge of projects going back to the Kings Dock and before. They have and will continue to have a scapegoat to blame and thats LCC when at the end of the day its all down to the club.

For evidence of this look how quick building plans now take. The new plans for Lime Street were published in June and the Echo reckons that build will start in October. If the club wants to do it then it will, by stalling proves that they dont.

I'm not taking the club's side at all, but LCC did help LFC more than they have helped EFC. It's indisputable fact; basically because LFC bring in more tourism than EFC do. Financally, from a tourism and commerce point of view, they're worth more to the city on a matchday. Hotel bookings and taxi usage is markedly increased when LFC are at home compared to when EFC is at home. LCC have given LFC money and time, and opportunities they wouldn't give EFC. Dating back to EFC informally enquiring about building on Stanley Park and getting no encouragement at all to pursue, then LFC getting planning permission for said park. LFC being allowed to buy up property around the ground and let it decay, destroying the local community, is something EFC would not have been allowed to do. There are people in LCC who definitely turn a blind eye when it comes to LFC developments.

I agree totally about the ineptness of our our club though. It is the EFC board's fault nothing has happened. That doesn't mean LCC couldn't have helped us a bit more at certain times.

Everton enquired about building a car park on the part of Stanley park that contains band stands the lake etc thats why it was turned down

No to an EFC car park but yes to a massive LFC stadium? That sounds about right.
Look at the layout of the park the part the stadium was supposed to get built on is just a big field.the council can't be held responsible for a board lacking ambition and vision, the club could be offered the whole of walton and would still fail to do anything

Councils need to work with clubs. LCC have worked closed with LFC. They haven't worked as closely with EFC. EFC have no money and are inept. The council have no money either, although previously they did when they helped LFC.

EFC are the major overriding factor when it comes to things not getting done, but LCC aren't totally blameless. It's delusional to think otherwise.

Yes it's to the benefit of the council to work closely with both clubs but I don't understand the bending over backwards bit when have they done that?
