Before we say goodbye.
Great video. I think the old main stand was better than the new one. The new main stand is like an expensive plastic surgery that makes the person look uglier than what they were before.

With a decent roof the main stand would be excellent. The steepness is great for viewing angles. Just the two rows of posts... I get one of the rows is needed to support the top balcony but the roof supporting one could easily be replaced by a cantilever/truss structure.Great video. Wasn’t Chelsea’s main stand built at the same time as our one? If so, their main stand is miles better than what we ended up with. Bearing in mind that we were a much bigger and more successful club than them at the time. With a decent roof the main stand would be excellent. The steepness is great for viewing angles. I love the quirkiness of the main stand. There's nothing like it in UK football. The small bits of the top balcony without any posts in view give the best views of any ground in England in my opinion.
Even in the 90s it was better than most stands in the top flight...
The old main stand was a bit before my time. If you look at the photos, some of the upper sections are miles away from the pitch

Given that you could stand one in front of the other ,there will then be more space to fill the voids ,I reckon 3-1 is not too overcrowded at all .
Safe standing isn't even yet in law so for the foreseeable years (maybe forever,) rail seating will be on a 1-1 basis and will still be the case when BMD is built.
Also, IF more than 1-1 was to ever be allowed, there is a lot more to it than just squeezing more in (like size of concourse/how many toilets there is/how many exits there is etc,) to be taken into consideration.
Yes theirs is about 2/3 years younger. They didn't have the angled road to contend with though.
I would be shocked if Meis has not provided for extra capacity due to standing otherwise there is no point in installing it .The generation that new standing are so old they are glad to sit now ! I stood for many years but as I am not tall I was on my tiptoes for both halves ,I couldn't /wouldn't do it now .This is a huge reason as to why 1:1 will be the maximum for the vast majority of existing stadiums, though its nearer to 0.8:1. The design of BMD is smaller as a seated capacity to allow for larger circulation space and therefore a higher ratio can be reached safely through standing. A big party of the 'Yellow Wall' is not just capacity but density which, in my opinion anyway, is why that stand has been mentioned specifically.
I have never liked our main stand for a variety of reasons. Also due to land space and issues with the housing behind, cantilever like chelseas takes space further behind the stand.
I was shocked to learn Chelseas main stands where built the same time as our main stand. Ours actually looks like it was built in the 70's but theirs looks like it could have been built this decade.

Personally I thought the stand it replaced was far more impressive and atmospheric with its massive terrace.
Also ,rightly or wrongly, I always blamed the cost of that stand for our failure to maintain the finest side I have ever seen and enjoy the kind of dominance our neighbours achieved.
Sadly although I have stood on every terrace at Goodison over the years before settling on the paddock I never stood on the old main stand terrace ,an oversight I now regret. I did however sit in the stand on a number of occasions and remember being impressed by the mass of humanity below.

Its not about how crammed you can make the stands (Though 3-1 is unachievable given current standards), its about how many you can safely accommodate in the concourses and how quickly people can flow though vomitories.
Didn't it nearly bankrupt them though? Also due to land space and issues with the housing behind, cantilever like chelseas takes space further behind the stand.

The authentic Goodison experience.Great ending!!
