New Everton Stadium

See I still think ours will.go back 12 months, although I guess the major difference here is they had a start date this year

It can’t be down to social distancing as the Teds where years ahead of the rest of us in boarding up people’s homes, bulldozing streets and destroying communities. @havrey0123 @radiostar and the rest of you duckworths that post on here and the witch hunt thread what do you thunk.

Because of the effect of this horrible horrible virus i think they are probably correct to postpone the extension cos I think crowds are going to be very badly reduced for many years.

What will do I think Everton do?
Because you badly need a new stadium I think they will still go ahead with the plan and hope to god that in 4-5 years crowds are back to the very high level they have been recently. Unfortunately I can't see that happening but footballs sake, I honestly hope that I'm badly wrong?

Edit; I've said it before, I think my team are gonna be F.....!

Their position wasnt much different to ours in that as part of the planning application, a construction plan had been created.

There has been no change to Evertons stadium plans, start date or otherwise, as things stand.

Somewhere in between HH - their construction plan required two full off seasons, in order to complete without significant stand closure (or possibly move required), meaning if the dont effectively start the day after the scheduled season, impossible now obviously, they cant start for 12 months. That said, i'm sure they are happy to draw breath, see how this all settles & when crowds return what does that actually look like.

re BMD - no doubt there is the will & the funds in place to get this done, but I would fear that anyone building a 500m+ project would need to ensure it remains viable post covid-19 before laying the first brick. If this is the case, I would fear a 12 - 18 month delay on construction

Regarding your neighbour. I agree with everything you've written but I looked at it from a very negative view (for them) in that they are hedging their bets as they also think there is a fair chance that future crowds are gonna be a lot lower, meaning there is no need to spend many millions on a capacity increase?

Completely agree - if the extention was a 6 week build at the same cost, i would suspect they would delay 12 months anyway to see if crowds are back & if so what does that look like

That doesn't take into account that there's a never ending list of Norwegians waiting to fill those seats! :)

As for the delay it is just prudent I suppose, say if it really did hit the fan and no one can sit in a stadium until a vaccine is found then you wouldn't want to have spent 60-70 million without the income being generated to cover those costs.

I reckon your lot will be fine attendance wise once things go back to normal, there is probably a queue of people who will snap up seats if match going supporters can't afford to go. But like above the loans you have to service should be coming out of the extra revenue created by the stadium itself and at the moment that isn't coming so it eats into the other income streams. Just bad timing but saying that least it is built now, had this been just before you started people may have got cold feet. WHL had a recent-ish rebuild and looked tidy enough to have been able to take the easy way out and then you might not have had the magnificent arena you have now.

If Covid 19 is still a serious consideration by the time our new stadium is built then football will be the least of our problems.

If anything, I think this enforced absence from all sporting activities shows just how important sport is in peoples lives and will remain so going forward.

I think the only worry we have about the new ground is the financing , we have lots of ideas about how it will be financed but no firm details as far as I know.

Whereas I don't want this season to finish for one reason I realise for the bigger picture(our club) that it is important that it does finish and our club earns every penny it can to help paying the bills and allow us to build the ground and the team.

Season 19/20 is now a statistic and will be remembered for the delay rather than the football and the winners.
