New Everton Stadium

It's just gone dead quiet and that usually ain't a good sign. It's been extremely long in the planning... so I hope that is an indiction that the club have everything boxed off and have fulfilled all requirements. But this is Everton and things usually go wrong for us, so fully expecting it to be called in and the proposal rejected.

Esk has turned so anti Everton it’s unreal
The way I see it is that he's morphed into a pessimist perhaps after his bold claims of certain signings and a manager that never came to fruition.

It's easy to promote the negative route especially if you have little or no genuine information because it's not trying to sell something to people's ambitions.

If he's right he can say, "I told you so!" whereas if he's wrong then the excitement will mean his negativity will be soon forgotten or at least it won't be relevant.

Coming out and saying that it will go through etc. is riskier in terms of integrity even though to the best of my knowledge it's the more likely option.

The sensible person would simply keep their mouth closed, but hey if you've got an image or sense of importance to fulfil then that's not what you'll choose.

why would any council not grant such investment and redevelopment in these times,
it could only be for reasons of corruption!

It's almost like there is a global pandemic going on that has major implications for how Stadia / Hotels / Venues might be built in the future.

My firm belief here is everything is on pause til it is clear that Covid is not a long term issue. If approved and started now (as designed) there is a genuine risk that BMD will not be fit for purpose when it is built, which is grim but a reality

Does anyone think the longer this goes on the more likely it is to be called in?

I don’t think there’s any correlation between the planning decision delay and increasing the chances of it being called in. If at all I’d say it reduces the chances as the delays are due in some part to the clubs re-designs to placate HE concerns.

Also what needs to be considered is that separate to being called in by the SOS every planning decision is subject to a possible judicial review. In simple terms this is the opportunity for every kite flyer and North Wales boatman to say to LCC you haven’t correctly followed your own procedures and correct planning law in making your decision. I believe the time being spent now is (and therefore the protracted time from submission to decision) to ensure every procedure is correct and all third party bodies consulted correctly and their input acted on accordingly. Being involved in social housing development I can quite accurately confirm all planning decisions are taking much longer than they were pre COVID.

I‘d also surmise Rob Jenrick will do all he can to avoid having this scheme called in on the basis the Government have enough on their hands with the pandemic and they see construction as one of the key industries to kick start the economy post COVID.

I’ve also got an ‘in’ to his secretary through a customer complaint on one of our schemes (frriend of a friend and all that) so I’ll make sure she ensures it gets lost in the post room lol

Do LCC have to confirm the date they are reviewing the stadium at a planning meeting or can it just be done and announced its granted out the blue?
My understanding is that they have to announce a planning meeting in advance and that lists the planning applications they will give the green light to or decline. So we will know when a decision is due when we are named in the planning application. That's the way it was explained to me.

I think it’s also important to clarify that though LCC Planning Dept. may recommend the scheme for approval its the actual LA planning committee members (generally local councillors) who will actually vote for approval or not on the day of the meeting. Meeting would normally be open to the general public as well but during COVID they should provide online access to view it.
