New Everton Stadium

Basically don't slam the door on the way out.

Regeneration of miles of wasteland and the generation of thousands of new jobs in a city still recovering from the run down of it's principal industry, is far more important than an award from an elitist up it's own backside organisation. If it hadn't been now it would have been the next major development to be announced. Liverpool may have lost it's World heritage status, but it hasn't lost it's heritage. That can never be taken away and Liverpool has more of it than any other city in the UK outside of London.

Spot on.

Liverpool may have lost it's World heritage status, but it hasn't lost it's heritage. That can never be taken away and Liverpool has more of it than any other city in the UK outside of London.
The rich and historied pasts of places like Bath, Edinburgh, York, Canterbury among others hold nothing in comparison to somewhere that was a large town up until the 1800's.

It will probably affect investment in a positive manner. The UNESCO badge would hold developments back and make the council wary of giving pp...now that monkey is off the city’s back they can get on with stuff……
Maybe.

The other side of the argument for me is that the attraction of the stadium location was partly due to it being on a waterfront that was a World Heritage Site.

It's still going to be a spectacular waterfront and Everton's stadium will benefit from that, but it would have been a plus if we could have boasted that.

I thought this was a bit of a scumbag headline from The Telegraph, giving the impression that it's all down to our new stadium plans.

Other Cities/clubs would say 'See that Hydraulic Tower we promised we would restore? The repairs to the wall? Forget it!

But we as a club and city are bigger than that! We would have always respected the history of the site and helped restore them. Who even are these people sitting on a panel in China? Wtf.
Very apt making a decision sitting in an office in China.
The same China that burnt and destroyed almost all of its heritage under Mao.
The country is now banked with skyscrapers and high end shoping malls in every major city.
The whole place is booming with wealth.

Hypocrites , thats all they are. This city will be far better placed with generating investment now rather than looking over its shoulder to see if its meets with UNESCO's approval.

Its really no big loss this.

It‘s just another ticket. The Taj Mahal, the Pyramids, would not lose a single visitor if UNESCO did similar to either. Even UNESCO haven’t visited in ten years. It will not make a blind bit of difference to visitor numbers, but will be a shot in the arm for Liverpool’s development and it’s people……

I've been to all those places mate, apart from Canterbury, and they are beautiful cities with a lot of history and heritage. But none of them house anywhere near the number of grade 1 and 2 listed buildings that Liverpool does. At it's height literally one half of world trade went through our port, and it was the staging post for emigration to what is now the richest country in the world, including nearly half of the Irish population. Americas first sky scrapers were based on Liverpool buildings and Central Park based on the one in Birkenhead.

Liverpool may have come late to the party but don't underestimate it's importance and the imprint it left on the world.
