New Everton Stadium

….probably an appropriate time of year to post this pic of the docks during the blitz of May 1941. So much has changed, yet so much is familiar. Even when the stadium is developed the past will be there;

What a great photo Eggs,truly captures a moment of local history, dark,dark days, personally,my own dad would have been three, my mum just three months old, my dads own father would have been out in Iceland with the British Yard Minesweepers before going to Alexandria then ultimately to meet his death in Leros on 11/11/43 in the Greek Islands,my mums Dad had a reserved job at Bibbys and would walk to and from work on shifts through the blitz and bomb damage from Norris Green,he saw some terrible sights as you can imagine:(

…extremely evocative & recent enough for us to have memories from those that were there. Thanks for sharing your personal and poignant detail.

My mother in law is 93 and lived through the Blitz around Canning Place. She said the bombers got so low down the river you could see them clearly. Kids collected shrapnel the day after a bombing.

The area around BMD clearly targeted in that pic.
