New Everton Stadium

Do we know who first looked at that dock and said, “do you know what, Everton could just fill that in with sand and put a stadium on that…”?

I remember being told that EFC (and I think the other lot) were looking at a site on the docks and this must have been 30 years ago. How seriously they looked into it is anybody's guess. I'm pretty sure it was even pre Peter Johnson.

A football stadium was part of the original Liverpool Waters plans, but was only seen viable as a joint stadium.

There's no doubt this stadium is an echo of the King's Dock project.

That was an incredibly well-received project at the time it was conceived. I think fondness for it only grew after it failed and the prospect of the Kirby Project started to become a waking nightmare.

Ultimately, I think it was the pain of missing out on King's Dock that brought the club and the fans back round to the idea of a waterfront ground. I'm so pleased it's actually happening - and just quietly hoping there are no spanners in the works from here on out.

That is the big thing that pees me off, Kenwright messing up. We would have been in a far better state now.

This may be true, but we are now able to take much more advantage of technological advancements now. We can have better connectivity, better materials, better design protocols. Ability to take full advantage of potential for rail seating, more so than other recently built stadiums.

I know that there is an argument that says if you keep delaying, then you'll always have better stuff available, and that you have to commit to buying at some point....... but....... it makes me feel better.

I was gutted at losing out on KD. It was spectacular, at the time. I personally feel now though that BMD will be better than what KD could ever have been.
