Yeah I’m not on the windup. Pretty sure Meis talked about it at the consultation thing they did a few years back. (The stand comparison pictures that do the rounds from time to time were mine originally, that I took during that session)
As @BirkenheadBlue said, I'm sure Meis mentioned it early on. Even away from a TV perspective, you'd want the pitch getting as much natural sunlight as possible.
They wheel out lamps to provide artificial light to help stimulate growth, but in the day you'd want as much as the pitch as possible getting direct sunlight.

The pitch north/south is a fit but also for the heritage brigade, it's perfect for supporting the dock wall.
I'd have preferred east/west as it would have made more sense. The sun being an issue for tv was the reason but if there was a slightly bigger roof or retracable roof it wouldn't have mattered now would it?
