New Everton Stadium

It's just a matter of time before Moshiri's USM / Usmanov connections are flagged up in a bigger way than they have been thus far.

He may be keeping his head down but there'll be no banks or financial institutions willing to loan hundreds of millions on the strength of his wealth...and neither would Moshiri want to place himself in the postion as guarantor.

The Usmanov/Moshiri route to financing a new stadium is over.
I have been told this morning that Everton had to prove funding was in place before commencement of the works, something to do with it being a Heritage site. How true that is I don’t know, but it would make sense as surely a pull-out would mean someone paying to put it back to where it was. Could always make a few beach volleyball courts I suppose.

I've lost count of the number of people who've told me this is dead now. People I wouldn't necessarily describe as excitable types.

Unless there's a mad billionaire investor out there willing to buy a debt ridden club and fund a stadium build while keeping their fingers crossed the club doesn't get relegated in the next few seasons, then - IMO - this is done for.

Well we will know soon enough, because Laings will not keep plant and equipment on site. If it’s dead, then you will see Everton fall like a stone

The Royal would have been delayed whether Carrillion went bust or not. Carillon were involved in risky business, passing on losses from onenjob onto the next on the promise that all debts woudl be covered by that next golden egg. It never happened.
That actually led to site investigations, which led to a few discoveries, which let to massive delay. The issues with the Royal, cannot, in my opinion, be likened to anything at BMD.

USM never put down £30m as first dibs on naming rights, they put £30m down to fill a £29.75m shortfall in our accounts, where we'd of failed ffp otherwise. The money can only go in from the stadium without being subject to other rules within P&L.

USM may well have sponsored the stadium, who knows. But they never paid £30m to do so. It was all just a rouse. Had somebody with a bigger offer come in, USM would have conveniently refused first offer.

It almost certainly was a ruse, but that was how it was sold to us and the authorities and given his connections to Moshiri, involvement in recruitment of FL and existing sponsorship deals I think it's fair to assume he was going to be all over this.

Various other manipulations/cash injections or changing debt to equity etc are all used to change the financial picture to suit..... but the point is that with Usmanov that facility was there and naming rights is/was always going to be a major part of the funding model. The loans themselves may even be secured on the basis of these, because we don't generate much (if any) surplus funds under our own steam.

Debt ridden companies are usually sold cheaply and I thought you said the stadium debt would be loaded on the club anyway for years to come, which btw is one of the things I agree with you about

Debt from the sources Everton will loan from will want the type of security a club battering down the door to relegation cant offer, and its revenue isn't great enough to borrow against. Usmanov was to be the guarantor.

If Moshiri took the hit on debts and wrote them off he'd still demand a hefty amount of money for his shares.

We could be in a Peter Johnson selling up state of limbo here in the near future. I could easily see that scenario unfold.
