New Everton Stadium

JA comes out with a statement we could be in a stadium in 3 years, so what does he know that we don't.

1) Thinking of that Stonecross place to use council land.

2) Is he thinking of north docks area not as likely as the other.

3) Are LCC thinking of putting a bid for the games to be staged in Liverpool and start building a stadium for us to take over, unlikely IMO. Plus where would LCC put a games stadium - Stonecross?
Games are 2026 , 10 yrs away mate.

Admittingly, I'm not clued up on how long it can take for stadium creation. Surely if JA says we'll be playing in a new staidum within 3 years, that means things must be quite far ahead already? I'd have thought it could take 2/3 years just to build the thing.

I am loving the idea of Trafalgar Dock.

Even the name would be grand.

The Trafalgar Stadium.

or Tralfalgar Park.

We could even fly the White Ensign on the roof.

Might the owners of the Echo Arena lodge a complaint about us having a stadium so close by? I expect we'd be looking to take some of the large events away from them.

The fact that we're staging a boxing match probably isn't gonna go down too well, because that probably sets a precedent for Everton and Liverpool to take some fights away from there. I think the darts and most bands would still use Echo Arena.

Most bands and comedians wouldn't be looking to play a football stadium

The only note of caution is that Anderson is a politician, but it does look like we are getting back on track though the timescales quoted look optimistic to me unless we are very close to acquiring a site. If there's any substance to JS's comments then surely there will be some detail coming out in the very near future. With everything else that is going on (Moshiri/Usamov/Martinez and players we are letting go), it is going to be a critical few months in the history of our great club, just hope we get it right this time.

I think it's highly unlikely. It'd take at least a year to design the thing, buy the land, get planning permission. That's assuming everything goes smoothly. Construction would probably be about 3 years I think.

Assuming everything goes well and we're actively trying to get a stadium project going as of right now, I'd still be surprised if we were in a new ground in 5 years time.

Yeah exactly, so if Anderson thinks we'll likely be in the stadium with 3 years, we must be fairly far ahead in the process.

I think it's more likely he's chatting bubbles mate. Moshiri's only owned the club for a couple of months (nothing will have been done before he took over let's face it), and even if the council are willing to fast track a planning application and assist with land purchase etc., there's still no way of fast tracking design for something that large.

We could already be sitting on plans that are fully set out for all the requirements.

Could new Everton stadium 'help Commonwealth Games bid'?

The North Docks, Stonebridge Cross and Mayor Anderson
Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson said a new Everton ground could play a key role in bringing the Commonwealth Games to the city.

The council and club are looking at two new brownfield sites after plans for a stadium and housing plus retail scheme at Walton Hall Park were formally dropped this week.

It is understood the two new sites are at Stonebridge Cross, a development previously earmarked for an Amazon warehouse, and a waterfront location in north Liverpool’s dockland .

The city’s mayor said he could not comment on the locations but did confirm he expects the new stadium to be built within three years.

He branded the tight timeframe ‘doable’ and said he “would not have stuck my neck out and said it if it wasn’t”.

And he insisted it could play a key role in the bid to win the race to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Mayor Anderson said a new stadium for Everton could host “not just the Commonwealth Games but things like the European Athletics championships and other sporting events – it could be good for the city region and the bid for the Games”.

He said: “The new ground, when it’s getting built, could accommodate that. And most of these events take place outside the football season so the ground could be used all year round.”
The Mayor said he is “in the process of setting up a meeting with ministers to discuss us bidding for the Games” and talks about financing it.

On Monday Liverpool council and Everton said in a joint statement they are now looking at two brownfield sites in the city for Everton’s new ground.

Although the waterfront location revives memories of the long-abandoned plans to build a new stadium at Kings Dock – now the site of the Echo Arena, the Convention Centre and the Exhibition Centre – Stonebridge Cross off the East Lancs Road in Croxteth is being touted as the most likely location as it is ready to be redeveloped.

The alternative is the huge area of land north of Liverpool city centre which has been lined up for the landmark Liverpool Waters Development where owners Peel want to build a series of skyscrapers in the derelict docklands area.

But nothing has been built since the huge £5.5bn scheme secured planning permission in 2012.

The Mayor said a three-year timetable to build a new stadium is “do-able” and added: “I would not have stuck my neck out and said it if it wasn’t.”

According to Mayor Anderson because a new ground would no longer include any direct regeneration elements such as housing and retail it would be easier to proceed with.

Also, because the club and council are looking at brownfield sites, it would not need Government approval in the same way the now-abandoned Walton Hall Park scheme did.

It was always likely to be called in by Government ministers and could even have faced a public inquiry.

Bringing the Commonwealth Games to Merseyside was part of Mayor Anderson’s manifesto for re-election as city mayor in this year’s local elections and will be part of his bid to become Liverpool city region metro mayor – although he may face competition for the Labour nomination from Liverpool MPs Luciana Berger and Steve Rotheram .
