New Everton Stadium

We can't afford this in the championship. It's going to be a total disaster

We can

It’s players in huge wages that will hamstring the club rather than the stadium as that’s not controlled by the Championship FFP

It’s getting the so called big players off the wage bill and bringing in a coach and players that can get out that league.

The stadium depends on what Moshiri and any partnerships with the stadium funding and if Morshiri want to continue to fund it then it won’t stop.

We will probably have the biggest wage budget in championship history. What evidence is there we can offload all these lads who contribute nothing but have 6 figures a week pay packets

Stadium costs aren't included in any FFP tallies.

B&M are one of the locally based businesses that are going to put money into the stadium (stand sponsorship) but wouldn't/couldn't pay for full naming rights.

I cant help see this now as a weight around our necks.

We desperately needed a new stadium, yes. But were we in a position to pile all the club;s energy into a project as enormous as this when we were so destabilised? And we've been less than secure ever since Moshiri arrived.

I know that sounds harsh, but I doubt I'll be the only one making that connection.

It's very difficult for clubs to shoulder that dual burden of PL football and building a stadium.
Good point. We have channeled all our energies into the build of the new stadium at the expense of how to run a football club. The football side of things has been an absolute disaster under Moshiri’s tenure. Poor choice of managers and DoFs have spent 100s of millions on dross. With regard to the stadium, we got the right location, right architect and company to build it at an agreed price. If only we’d have the same level of professionalism shown to the football side of things.

That sounds like pure emotion talking and not using your head Tim. As long as the club are sensible and don't try to gamble it all on getting up straight away that we actually negotiate up salaries, with parachute payments and selling of assets such as DCL, Pickford and Gordon we would have more than enough to see out the remainder of the larger contracts. One would hope that those type of players would want to move on for their careers sake.

It's not like a few years ago when we had James, Mina, Digne, Sigurdsson, Gomes all on 100+. After Mina goes in the Summer we will just have Dele and that would only be for one season. We have cut down the wage bill significantly and continue to do so by buying pap.

After naming rights, extra events and the increased hospitality the stadium even in the championship would be fairly cost neutral to us. I believe we'll be fine if it's finished, whether or not Moshiri has the cash to do that if he cannot find an investor or favourable loan is more of the burning question.

I said the same thing the other did.

It's amazing: a world class stadium is being built on time and with professionalism 2 miles away from GP and yet the football club hierarchy that's commissioned it are Northern Premier League standard.

It's a bizzaro world we live in as fans of Everton.

Does this thing get completed if we go down?

Or is it a £500m dead weight around the clubs neck?

I think it depends on Moshiri, technically owners can invest as much as they like in the training ground and stadium and it doesn’t go against the club in terms of losses.
If we go down and Moshiri wants to sell. The new stadium being completed would probably make the club a more attractive proposition. If he were to put the brakes on the stadium that would probably be worse for him, costs would be incurred because we would be breaking a contract with the construction company and it would possibly put potential buyers off, if we had a half completed stadium, that the new owners would have to sort out.
