New Everton Stadium

Had the dubious pleasure of watching RBNY get smashed at home by Orlando City last night. Some observations by way of how they make an ‘experience’ out of a game and how we with a blank canvas stadium can install cutting edge sound, lighting and wifi to immerse fans (and monetise it to use the new American owner jargon).

Super fast wifi and a very well thought out match day app, QR codes for everything from selecting tracks for the DJ (yup) to motm, spinning the wheel for a lotto, pre game light show activation etc.. the sound system in RB Arena is very very good. Given the design of BMD, assume this has been thought through.

They had Heineken, Audi and adidas interactive zones outside to allow fans either partake in sponsored penalty type completions or two bands playing live under the eaves of the stands. We have the facilities and the fanzone to replicate some to all of this as much as we wish to. BMD could be truly special in the PL.

As an aside They have a series of summer concerts and an international rugby 7’s in July plus it is one of the NY/NJ venues for the World Cup.

Don’t be silly. We have a brand new stadium and theirs is still going to be bigger. Yet again an error of judgement from our board and the people in charge. There’s no way this ground should be anything under 65k. Crazy.
True, but when all is said and done all they have really done is bolted a couple of extensions onto their ramshackle little hut, whilst we are building a landmark, state of the art stadium on the banks of the river. It’s a wonderful statement, and needs to be taken advantage of, which is where we get to the people in charge again. Hopefully they won’t be in charge for much longer.

I agree it should be bigger, but size doesn't make a stadium better. Their new stand is looking good however our ground has the ideal location and should be more modern.

I just did a stadium tour in April. Goodison, the Den, Loftus Road, London Stadium, Selhurst Park, U of Bolton Stadium. London Stadium was laid out terribly, I was sooo far from the pitch, but there were 60k people in that ground and it felt way different any of the other grounds. Just walking into the ground in a crowd that large was a powerful experience. With more thought and a better layout, which I think BMD will have, getting 65k Evertonians in there would be amazing. Goodison plus 20k+ more people, it's going to be awesome.

Who the hell cares? “Hahaaa we’ve got a bigger stadium” is the sort of argument I’d make when I was 8 years old. They are a bigger club than us with a bigger fanbase and therefore will have a bigger stadium, grow up and deal with it.

Its almost the type of argument a Kopite would use thats constantly up at night thinking about our brand new shiny stadium on the cities famous waterfront.

There might be a few cranks wound up by BMD but the vast majority of reds I know aren't a bit bothered.... many actually think it'll be a good thing for the city generally and they're appreciative of that.

Those I've spoken to certainly don't feel threatened by it. Why would they? They've got to 61k for a fraction of the cost, with 3 times the number of boxes of BMD and over double the corporate capacity. Their new stands pay for themselves in no time. Freeing up more cash from an already much larger matchday income, to invest in to an already much superior team. The truth is, we barely register on their "causes for concern" list.

Some may have concerns that the step change in facilities and profile may set the club up for a wealthier and more professional ownership to come in (we all hope), but they're probably more than balanced by those who see the resultant debt killing us, or not owning the stadium. (Hence the reason for most not being too bothered so far).
