New Everton Stadium

Rich men buy football clubs because it is something to do other than be filthy rich. If Abramovich or Moshiri wanted more money there are far more effective ways to spend their time.

So you're telling me that all these filthy rich owners of PL teams are just doing it to for something else to do? eh right...
These people are ruthless, especially when it comes to money. There must be a serious wedge to be made OR there's a quick way to launder money via football clubs - that's the only reason they are involved in football.

Where's the Arteta money, bill?

It depends on the owner. Some just do it as a hobby. How much profit do you think Sheikh Mansour has made from city?

Oh plenty, I'd say. What with those oh-so-legit sponsorship deals they did a couple of years ago, where he effectively paid himself about $800m in sponsorship. Not dodgy that, oh no.

Would that type of arrangement bother you if Moshiri brought similar success here, I couldn't care less what he makes out of it personally so long as the Blues are back.

Can you prove all the money these owners have made ? Should be fairly easy.

I'd be interested to know exactly how much money Abramovic has made out of Chelsea since he bought them, given how many players they've bought over the years, the wages etc. Yes, they've sold a fair few as well, but it would be interesting to see where the wealth creation is coming from.
I looked at this a while back and iirc Abramovic has sunk approx. £1BN into Chelsea in total, and the value of the club according to Forbes was approx. £1.1BN.

So in essence, if he could find a buyer and sold tomorrow he'd get his entire investment back, so his hobby horse would have cost him nothing.

Bill and Co did all right out of it..........just saying

Lerner aside (as Villa went down), can you name any filthy rich PL club owners who've lost their shirts on their investment in recent years?

Or any current PL club owners who've invested more into their clubs than their current Forbes valuation would see them return should they sell?

I've not said that they have lost great amounts of money. I'm saying that very rich men know perfectly well that investing in a football club is not an efficient way to get rich. The original implication was that Moshiri is in it for the money, which is quite clearly ludicrous.

Billionaire's plaything is the term I believe.

In my opinion only, Moshiri is in it to become an icon, somebody that a whole generation of football fans can look back at and say, "I had that moment because of what he did for us". He wants to be written into a clubs history. We're just lucky that he's seemingly in a position to do it here. If he make a few bob as well, then so be it.

Agreed mate - I think that some of the mega rich must get to a stage where they take stock and think what the hell am I going to do with all of this - and after a bit of soul searching think does anyone really know me or who I am, will anyone care and know who I am the day I pop my clogs, a week after, year after, 10 years etc..........

Making a real mark, a legacy, getting written into a piece of history at some stage has got to seem a bit more appealing than making even more cash for someone else to splash up the walls once you've checked out for good.

I don't think we can judge Moshiri's intentions at this stage. I don't think he's doing it as a personal vanity project. It's either a business deal where he wants to make a profit or he's laying the ground work for someone else to come in and take it over as a vanity project.

If it's the former and just a business deal then I suspect the stadium is probably the thing he is focused on and premiership mid-table safety in the meantime the aim along with improving our commercial deals. He probably has a lot of construction contacts, the capital to make it work and support from the local council. With all that in place it may be a win, win, win for him.

I guess we will learn come the end of the transfer window.
