New Everton Stadium

Doubt it has anything to do with it mate to be honest.

I'd also challenge the view that it's taking 'so' long. This is a complex decision for the City, for Peel, for other potential developers and most importantly Everton.

From a standing start we can't expect to see significant plans in the public domain after just a few months. The fact is we are negotiating to build one of the premier sporting stadia this country has ever seen in one of the most sensitive development areas - it takes time.
I know you've said you have seen designs,I take it there is a few designs that are being considered or have they made their minds up on a particular one?

UNESCO is a load of crap anyway. Hopefully we get rid of soon.

It strangles development in the city and it brings no benefits whatsoever. I know some claim it brings tourists but I highly doubt people choose their destination based on Heritage Status plus we would still have the blues and the beatles. The council would never knock down the Albert Dock, so its hardly like it needs protecting.

Some of most popular European cities, Copenhagen for example, don't have UNESCO Heritage Status.

Interesting.

Totally justifiable decision taken by Anderson there.

How can UNESCO honestly expect a city to stand still for two years to protect heritage? Cities need to progress in the modern era.

It is all well and good maintaining heritage, but can someone tell me what use them old tobacco warehouses are doing for the greater good of the city?

Get a stadium there that will provide jobs and regenerate an area in desperate need.

I go to Chester a lot and there is a grade 2 listed building, Dee House, covering half the amphitheatre. The building hasn't been occupied since 1990 and has been derelict for years, but they can't knock it down to enhance the amphitheatre. Seems crazy like the old warehouses TBH. Anywhere else wouldn't the warehouses are classed as brown sites?

The thing is, look at what the Albert Dock has been turned into with a bit of forward thinking.

A new stadium close to the warehouses could bring a new lease of life to the place. Bars, retail, etc could all use the building.

I'm just happy the council aren't sacrificing progression.

C

Correct. As a retired fireman I lost count of the number of fires in warehouses/mills which were grade II protected but allowed to fall into disrepair. They invariably ended in demolition...
Indeed. There's a fine line between Heritage & progress. It's often hard to distinguish when you come at it from one end of the spectrum but whilst I lament the loss of some wonderful buildings in my City, we have some very fine modern amenities too.

Cruise ships can bring in more tourist than UNESCO. Notice that the buffer zone extends to half way in the Mersey for crying out aloud.
