New Everton Stadium

Wrong time of year to sow seed so - it will not be sown until April next year - but with undersoil heating would have to be sown soon with a Bents - fescue, & slight ryegrass mixture ... in-between the artificial grass ....

Sure this was raised on one of the drone videos. Pretty certain it was said that they would be using lamps to imitate the light if the sun. So it will be sown soon and grown in the winter. Anybody know which is correct?

Correct.

They have a storage area set aside for the UV Grow Lights next to the Energy/ Media Centre in the Car Park, I believe they use the same ones at Goodison.

I think Joey has appointed himself forum expert on the grass situation - but the club aren't in agreement, unfortunately for them.

Once seeding is complete, expected to be in early October, specialised machinery will then stitch synthetic fibres into the roots of the grass to strengthen them and provide a hard-wearing, hybrid SIS grass surface.

Seems like they're a week or 2 behind schedule, but clearly autumn seeding doesn't phase them.

The grass will grow at any time of year. All you need is warmth within the soil to force germination and sunlight (imitated or otherwise) for effective photosynthesis, which when in the correct range will strengthen the plant. The work they put in ensures year round growth meaning the grass has to be cut weekly.

This is why toward the end of the season the pitches nowadays look in great condition even after a British winter. Even looking down the leagues you see the difference from the days pitches at the likes of Old Trafford were like a badly ploughed field before the christmas was over.

Two somewhat random questions from my side,
1. Is there a reason why the Media centre is outside the ground rather than being incorporated with it?
2. Is there a reason why the solar is only on the south stand roof?

….i’d imagine the media centre will have pictures relayed directly into it and has all the latest high teq equipment required to beam reports effectively across the globe.

Anybody with a south facing garden will know it’s one that gets the sun. I have a north facing garden and it’s not the best.

For 1, I imagine it frees up more space for paying supporters.

For 2, the optimal roof for any solar panels is always south-facing as it gets the most sun. It's also a big space, and the east and west roofs are earmarked for sponsor logos.

The media area is for the broadcast teams. The majority of their comms kit is within a broadcast vehicle. This way they can have a dedicated and secure place to connect to the stadiums systems and 'in place' connectors for the cameras. Makes the stadium pretty much plug and play for the broadcasters. It'll be a dream for them.

Solar will be placed using sun path analysis and the most efficient energy capture being the preferred place.

Thanks for the Answers all!
I appreciate that South facing tends to get more light however with it being a large flat(ish) roof with nothing overlooking it/causing shadows you'd assume that the panels would still be fairly efficient in all orientations so the space on East and West being left for Sponsor logos makes a lot of sense.

Not being funny mate but I don't see a world where we ever fill a 70k stadium week in week out. I posted last week how we've never actually averaged more than 53k in any season in our history.

For events like Internationals, Euro finals, major pop concerts etc. and heaven forbid there is a time we do well within a century. Even West Ham are averaging 63,000. Spurs, Arsenal, the sh1te over 60 too. I was primarily talking about major events, but I can also see a world mate, when a derby, or united game, or other big game would fill more than 52,888.

But if we only get 60 for a midweek game against some no mark team live on tv the ground would look bad,can hear all the songs from opposing fans now in my head.53 is fine and by far the best looking stadium in the country.

Dont know if you saw it but Dave posted an article earlier on the Metaverse and what that will mean for revenue and attending games - may come a time in the near future where people in the stadium will just be a part of the attendance at a game.
