New Everton Stadium

Anyone else happy to see the back of Goodison ??!

Feels like its been a place of misery for around 30 years, barley remember anything good at the place.
It is a complicated relationship even for older fans. I saw my first game there with my great grandfather, grandfather and Dad when barely two. I attended games with my Dad, brother and cousins. I saw us beat West Brom (I was not quite 4 then) and QPR to win the title. I saw Wimbledon, Coventry and Palace. I took my daughter to her first game (my son is an F1 petrolhead with little interest).

Yet truth be told I, just like most of us, have seen far more lows than highs but our emotions go beyond just experiences. Goodison is as much a family home as the one I grew up in on Wirral. A place I have shared with family and friends for decades. Yet the day comes to leave home and make a new life somewhere else. I did it forty years ago. The time for Everton to do so is long overdue. I will always love Goodison and remember it fondly but I will not mourn its passing.

Yep. Definitely.

The final day will obviously be heartbreaking. But here's where it gets interesting for me. I'm 24 and I go with my brother who's 12. When we're in the alehouse before a home game and we're taking about certain games we've been to at Goodison it's actually quite embarrassing when we look at the actual games we're recalling.

As good as that Palace night was, it was for the completely wrong reasons and is in some ways embarrassing to call that one of Goodison's greatest nights (though I won't deny it was quite literally incredible). The Newcastle and Chelsea games in the same season where Iwobi and Richarlison scored, those game are so fondly remembered because of the unbelievable position we'd have been left in had we not won them games of football. 5 points behind Burnley with only 1 game in hand it'd have been had we lost to Chelsea! The desperation in some of the games that season is gut-wrenching to think about.

When you look at last season's derby as well, beating them is obviously the best thing ever but I think part of the reason that result was so special was again due to the desperation of wanting to beat them, that was the first (with fans) for 14 years! 14 whole years we had to wait for that, how pathetic.

A load of other brilliant games we go over are ones like :
The United 4-0 - went onto to finish 8th that season behind newly promoted Wolves
The Chelsea 2-0 FA Cup quarterfinal - went on to get knocked out in the semis anyway
The Dan Gosling FA Cup derby - beaten in the final

It just feels like, as someone who is 24 and goes with someone who is 12, the majority of our memorable games are either remembered for the wrong reasons, or random games in what would ultimately go on to be remembered as nothing seasons. I know this is really, really grim, negative and depressing way of looking at things, but I just cannot wait to see the back of Goodison when we move into the new ground. A fresh start, a new beginning and some hope that we can move in the right direction to where we want to be as a football club. Rant over 😄

Nicely put 🙌

I like that, absolutly feel much of this also.

I certainly don't think I'll be "happy to see the back of it" but I am looking forward greatly to the move.
I have some fantastic memories of Goodison going back well over half a Century.
I will always absolutely love the place, those memories will still remain.
I have great memories of the prefab that I lived in as a child, but times change and even if it were possible there is no way I would choose to live in a prefab now.

Emotions would be higher if it wasn't such a walk in the park for opposition teams but it will continue to be so under this manager. Goodison deserves days and nights to remember in its final season.

Now you just get the feeling most can't wait for that fresh start to come quick enough, maybe the takeover will change the mood but as long as this manager is still here the whole atmosphere will remain flat.

Same here,I was initially dreading "the leaving of Goodison" however when we "get through" that last game the excitement for the "new lady" will mount,I genuinely now think it is the reset along with the hopefully "new owners" we have all been craving.

Yeah, it's like when you are moving house and waiting for the completion to go through, you start caring less about your current home and want to get to the new one, that's what I'm like now

Yeah, and no.

50 years and more it's been a massive part of my life.
So many memories of games attended with family and friends no longer here.
My little brother who was also my best mate, my Grandad, my Godfather, couple of cousins, couple of uncles, mates and on and on.

However we're moving and that's that and we've all got those stories to tell.

Gotta say though, all those I've mentioned above would absolutely adore BMD and what we've done there.

Their spirits will be pleased as they watch over us.

I'm sad to see it go, but it's time has been up for 30 years. No longer fit for purpose. Only the Park end offers anything like a modern football experience. But even that is too small, done on the cheap.

Completely agree tommye.

Some wonderful memories of Goodison but a change is needed and hopefully the stadium inspires a fresh enthusiasm and ambition within the club.
