New Everton Stadium

I agree. But we still don't know what the transport arrangements will be yet. I mean regards extra trains and Soccerbuses. I hope they get both right. Hopefully we hear something in the new year.
I think soccerbuses will be like for like, there's only so many spare buses so capacity I doubt will increase.

I wouldn't think it's feasible to add additional trains into the current northern line timetable either, again there's only so many trains and tracks plus an established timetable. Sandhills to BMD is no better than Kirkdale to GP so not sure if there's even an incentive for Merseytravel to do anything.

The area needs better.

The close proximity to the city also means more fans will have the opportunity to walk to Bramley-Moore Dock, while a looping matchday shuttle bus services will run between the stadium and the main stations in town, for those who cannot make the journey on foot.
In reality it's walkable if you're relatively fit, if elderly or have an impairment you're not walking that distance especially when you add in the weather. I walk that route a lot and I think a few are in for a rude awakening.

The shuttle bus is inadequate on its own. We have buses to Goodison now.

The blurb from the club is lip service, if you know the area you'll know it's extremely disconnected from public transport.

I like the exterior but for some reason i find the stadium from actual pitch side to be a bit underwhelming for some reason.

It just looks a bit generic the stands seem too small for some reason. The newer Spurs stadium actually looks more impressive to me.

Of course i'm sure it's going to be different when a match is on there, and it is supposed to be a modern stadium and that's what modern stadiums look like after all.

We needed a new stadium and we have it now, but there's no harm in acknowledging that the transition from Goodison to the new place might be a bit awkward at first.

It's a whole new stadium and a whole new vibe.
I think the interior looks somewhat underwhelming at first because it’s predominantly 2 tiers. Whereas a most large/modern stadia have 3 or 4 tiers (like Spurs stadium, Wembley, Emirates etc).

Although the West and East stands are the same height (and both technically 2 tiers ) if you just focus on the central section then then West stand seems bigger because it’s in 3 or even 4 sections rather than 2. It’s hard to grasp the scale of 2 larger tiers rather than 3 or 4 moderately sized ones.

When fans are in it’ll look and sound great imo but pictures don’t necessarily do it justice.

If there can't be more capacity on the trains and there can't be more bus provision, what is the solution?

This was all looked at extensively as part of the planning application in conjunction with the relevant operators. There will be additional capacity provided on the trains (likely additional carriages rather than trains) along with specific match day shuttle buses running from various locations in the City and Bootle.

I doubt it will be perfect, and things will likely develop over time, but there will certainly be a number of sustainable travel options available.

I don't think they are increasing the number of season tickets issued as much as I thought for BMD. They can only gaurentee that those with 5 years membership will get one. I reckon that must be only a 3k or so extra. So there will be lots of extra tickets for general sale. I think maybe it's going from around 31.5k ST at goodison to 35k ST at BMD.

Yes, the site is a public transport blind spot at present and of course it's only accessible from one side, with limited transport permeability in land in the immediate vicinity.

The transport plan itself is a bit of a box-ticker only, Tbh. The one thing it does set out quite clearly, is the requirement for a substantial "modal-shift" to public transport for this site. To the extent of stating the need to at least reverse the public to private-transport ratio, from roughly 40%:60% (at present) to 60:40 in favour of public transport, to avoid gridlock. The surrounding road network will have been modelled for matchday traffic and parking etc, and the outcome appears to have been that the site requires approx 31k to travel by public transport. How this is to be achieved is particularly vague. Yes, the Northern Line is a great asset for the site and is only a kilometre away with potentially a very healthy 12 trains per hr in either direction, but that is somewhat limited by both the capacity of Sandhills station itself (previously stated as just 3-4k passengers per hr) and the fact that the bulk of the Liverpool conurbation is not served directly by Merseyrail. Hence the reason why only a relatively small proportion of the fanbase use it currently on matchdays, via soccerbus from Sandhills and on foot to/from Kirkdale and Bankhall Stations (over 5 available platforms). The new trains also do have a bigger capacity, but that accessibility from the single-platformed Sandhills Station might negate that benefit. The new matchday marshalling area will hopefully improve that throughput, but what is really needed is a new station at Vauxhall to help split north and south-bound fans, and process far more passengers. At Goodison, buses pass the stadium itself on Walton Lane and within a couple of hundred metres or so on County Rd, with other services using Priory Rd and Queens Drive. The bulk of the nearest bus routes to BMD are approximately 1 mile in land on Scotland Rd/Stanley Rd. Therefore the total regular public transport capacity within 1 mile is literally only a few thousand seats per hour and generally less convenient to access than they are at GP, yet we are somehow expected to at least reverse the public transport usage proportions?

Of course, the supposed main saving grace of the site is proximity to the city centre and all of its much greater public transport capacity, directly serving every part of the city and the greater city region, and its national rail hub at Lime Street. However, the reality is that the main bus stations at Queens Sqr and Liverpool One are both 2.7Km away (37mins on foot from the Bramley Moore Pub according to google maps) and Lime St Station is 3km, which is only a few hundred metres closer than it is to Goodison Park. The oft-mentioned shuttle buses are split between serving Bootle and the city centre, and if I remember rightly are planned for just 2 trips each, and again will only equate to a total of less than 5k passengers per hr. So, there appears to be a substantial shortfall in easily accessible public transport for the required 31k public transport users to be achieved..... with the onus placed firmly on Shank's Pony to/from town and surrounding districts.

I don't think that these problems are insurmountable, but the existing transport plan certainly doesn't seem to cover it. That connectivity with the city centre is all-important to open up accessibility to all of those services. So, I am bit surprised that they haven't opted for a shorter shuttle service for some of the buses just to the edge of the city centre, to greatly increase the frequency and capacity of that service. Hopefully in the future, the Vauxhall Stn will be in place and the new Glider vehicles, operating in their own matchday segregated lanes will perform the shuttle task even better.

I'll leave the locals to argue the toss over the transport links, but from the tourist perspective - I'm Irish - the new stadium is much more conveniently located than Goodison is. It's a 20-minute walk on a decent day. Getting to Goodison, by comparison, always struck me as being reminiscent of taking the Night Bus in Harry Potter: "Take her away, Vern", with no guarantee you'd get on or that it would reach its destination. The last one I took broke down. In truth, all joking aside, people not familiar with the area wouldn't really countenance walking to or from Goodison for fear of getting lost. That won't be an issue at the Dock. The worse that could happen would be we'd end up in the Mersey. And that's on the way to Ireland, anyway. Silver linings.

Those of able-body will be delighted to walk from the city in any kind of reasonable weather.

Northface scallies or the Mersey’s mutant killer turds?
I know which I’d rather face.

I think there is approximately a 3k increase in corporate season tkts too.... so I think the total will be nearer 38-39k at BMD.
