New Everton Stadium

Big Club FC are going to have a parade to mark the title this coming summer, like it or not, that’s coming. The new owners need to be aware of the local dog pi$$ marking optics as well as the potential for demeaning the new stadium (leaving out physical vandalism) inherent to these dirtbags. Look what they did to the liver buildings for inspiration (or just look at a history book).

We need to be asking the new management team to be engaging the council and such other police etc bodies such that respectfully we are asking that any such parades stay well well away from BMD.

Middlesbrough built a new ground by the docks but its a bit dull and surrounded by industrial unit still after over 20 years.
I went to Bolton for a mid week game, Felliani scored a late winner, and a lad I got talking to before the game said a good few supporters stopped going when they moved out of the town as they felt it was the wrong thing to do. We were talking about going to Kirby around that time.
We have it right with the waterfront location, staying in the city, and if the surrounding area gets developed with lots of ale houses and places to eat, we will be onto a winner.

It's already on the way to being a developed but respect to its heritage area

Bolton like wigan and reading has retail parks near them which is grim. We have protected buildings like tobacco warehouse and the titanic hotel. It really is special.

Precisely, it is a design flaw. A lot of the last generation of high-roofed stadia suffer similarly. We should've learned from them. The roof lines literally are just above the front rows. They should've been extended by at least 10m to reduce this effect. Bilbao had to retrofit an extended cable net roof, because the lower tier got soaked and the fans just filled the concourse spaces at their waterfront stadium. The next generation of stadia will be closed or retractable roof designs. At £750m we probably should've been too. A large proportion of the lower tier is far too over-exposed. I'm glad that there are corporate down to pitchside.... maybe that way, this will be addressed at some point.

Design flaw? Apologies but are you more knowledgable than the some of the best engineers in the world working for LOR? Interested to know.

I've worked with LOR engineers on a few projects, and helped win a few contracts competing against them too, but not sure what that's got to do with anything tbh. It's a very simple observation that requires no real expertise whatsoever. It was pointed out a few years ago that, at that height, the roof lines needed to be extended far further to avoid large sections of the lower tiers being overly exposed. All covered on these pages several times since the plans were first published, and long before the rain patterns proved the point over recent months.

Any stadium design text book explains the issue of partial protection in stadium roof design. This has been a recurring theme in several modern stadia, particularly those with high upturned roof lines, attracting various levels of criticism and in some cases, correction. That's one of the reasons why some UK architects have opted for downward sloping rooves in their designs, and why Man Utd might be hoping to copy the SoFi stadium's full roof design in their new or redeveloped stadium.

Tom, I really enjoy your informative posts but it's extremely dumbfounded when you questions those who are basically mathematical geniuses, one of whom I know who was lucky enough to win a tender with the stadium build.

The Sofi stadium is a fully enclosed stadium for NFL as it's in the desert. What are these text book stadiums to speak of?

Why aren't you a world accredit stadium engineer? Maybe it's because you don't know how to use paragraphs.

We’ll find out soon enough if people get drenched or not - easy enough test

I heard the other day that it's ten miles from BMD entrance to Liverpool One! Total disgrace and not well thought out at all.

Apparently, the new stadium is exactly 10 minutes walk way. It doesn't matter where you start walking from, either. Pier Head, Lime Street, Walton, Edinburgh, Rio de Janeiro, it makes no odds whatsoever. Another great thing is that it will always be sunny. Even if you do the walk for a night game in the depths of winter, the sun will cracking the flags, you'll be able to do the walk in shorts and flip flops. There is absolutely no need for any public transport whatsoever. Great stuff.
