New Everton Stadium

Even though we pride ourselves on being the club that the people of the city support, a good amount of folks on the waiting list would likely be from a good distance from Liverpool and travel on a Thursday night would be a tough ask. We mock the RS for having so many fans from far away, but you just have to see the airport and Lime street station on an Everton match day to see how many folks travel some distance to see games at Goodison. We`ve season ticket holders from all over, Ireland, Scotland and a huge crowd travel from down south too, and how many of them will have to say they`ll have to give Thursday a miss when they would be able to make it on a weekend.
We`ll get big crowds at the new ground, especially league games, but when games are scheduled for days and times that make it difficult for people to travel to and from the game they`ll be left with unsold tickets no matter how cheap they price them.

I don't disagree with much of that, I regularly have to fly home for matches and often see a few blues en route, but according to the club, there is supposed to be a massive surplus of demand. A total of 63k+ wanting season tickets alone. Presumably with many more again, wanting to attend less frequently too. I'm not sure that Thursdays are much worse than any other midweek game tbh, so it's difficult to equate all of that with a sub-capacity attendance, for what could be our last ever cup game, for much reduced prices..... (if that happens)..... even more so when we'll soon have over 35% more home seats to fill, at higher prices. Or are you just saying that FA Cup games have lost all of their attraction? Could be the biggest factor.....

Don’t think there are thousands mate.
there isn’t, it’s 966 at this current time. This is an example of the availability of each stand on the ticket platform. I’ve gone through and added them together

Casement Park is a bit of a political hot potato, and the cost estimate varies massively, depending on whether you ask the British Government, Sinn Fein and/or the GAA. I know the original costs were less than £100m, but that was probably 10yrs ago and possibly a much different design.

There's plenty of examples across the whole range, and many for far less. Aarhus in Denmark for instance..... think it's approx £65m for 24k capacity. Or indeed Cagliari's current very basic stadium, which is about 8yrs old and only cost £8m for 16k.

Of course abroad you may get something cheaper and in warmer climates you can even get open backed basic terracing so as you say prices can vary greatly. Casement Park is an up to date example of how much a category 4 standard stadium would cost in the UK.

I think you'll agree it is pretty pointless saying we can build a 70k seater in say Bulgaria for £250m for instance, that's great for Bulgarian clubs (not really due to how much they earn in comparison!) but we can't do anything with that news.

Even if we say the UK government over egged the price as a reason to can it, it's still fairly nailed on Casement would have cost £350m and well over £10k per seat. It's now obvious there was a time to build a stadium (at international class at least) in this country, we straddled it, Casement park missed it completely.

This can be used to our advantage though, if we get everything right on the pitch for a few years hopefully we can take up a position ahead of clubs like Villa, snatching the last of the European spots and try to take away the income that makes shelling out for new stands/a whole new stadium at those figures viable.

There are 1000s of tickets left for Peterborough a few days before we play them - IMO it’s due to it being midweek . We will have 13,000 more seats to fill in 8 months time. The transport issues at BMD should not be lightly dismissed.
1000’s? Nah. There’s less than one thousand tickets available from what I can see.

Many of which are absolutely crap restricted views, for a Thursday night game just after the expensive and busy Xmas period, in our “first” round of the cup, against lower league opposition.

Peterborough also didn’t take their full 15% allocation, so another 2000 have been made available to home fans.

Most teams can only dream of shifting that many tickets under the circumstances.

The big thing for me about the 3rd round of the cup was there were so many games on the Saturday that people were looking out for the scores, at the same time as watching your own team. Looking through the fixtures to see who you`d like to see get knocked out so we could have an easy game in the next round.
That bit of a buss gets lost when your waiting till midweek for your team to play and there`s no other games to really think about.

They're planning for it. For a few of the pubs on County Road it'll pay them to keep the fans coming in for a beer pre-match and running a free bus to Bramley Moore. Won't work long term coz pubs will open closer to BM but it might buy the pubs a season or two more custom while we all stick to our "pre match traditions"

The Walton social are doing subsidised pints and £5pp for a minibus for home games next season. I reckon they'll get at least 2 years out of that.

Tbh, i don't think Casement Park was a "nailed-on" anything. I only mentioned Aarhus because I work with Danes and one of them sent me a link about it quite recently...... and also because Denmark is generally more expensive to build in than most parts of the UK outside of London. Luton have just got the go ahead for their 25k stadium and that is also around £100m. A £10k per seat budget can get you something the size of LFCs, stands which are roughly the same size as Wembley's and much larger than anything expected at Cagliari's stadium or indeed Casement Park..... and of course, they've actually been built.
