New Everton Stadium

Can we have 2 new threads,
one for those things you like about the stadium and one for things you don’t like please.

Just to separate those half full versus those always half empty
Would never work.
Too many desperate to provide a contrarian view to fans who are simple happy with it and want to celebrate it.
They wouldn’t be able to contain themselves to their critique thread and miss out on forcing their nit picking and whataboutism on people who aren’t interested in it.

Just hope they're going to Evertonize it a bit more from the outside.

No please don't...

As others have said, the brick panelling needs to be seen within the context of the surrounding area. Walk up from town and it REALLY belongs now. Maybe the bricks have purposely dulled a bit? I also love the way you see the outward curvature of the roof from that Waterloo road/Regent road angle, sort of bulging out at the middle then coming back in. It's architecturally stunning. Then, by the time you get to the stadium itself, it looks like a giant basking shark coming up out of a tobacco warehouse. To me, it looks awesome from every angle and, architecturally, it's far superior to any other stadium I have seen.

All opinions on creative endeavours are valid, but my mind boggles at how anyone could go down there and walk away thinking 'well Dan Meis did his best to screw THAT up!!' @davek can you give examples of stadiums where the architect got it right? So we can have context for your comments about Meis getting it wrong?

I’d love us to do that with Goodison but strip all the cladding to reveal the old brick work.
I don't think any of our stands are the right size or shape to 'do a Highbury'. I guess, at a push, the Gwladys and Bullens could be made into compact apartments, with a lovely green space in front. That would be beautiful. But I don't think there's much potential for the main stand.

I think the side stands at Highbury were listed buildings and had elaborate and decorative facades and marble hallways.

Simply put, here it would cost more than knocking down and rebuilding on the site for no architectural merit. The terracing is what makes the GS/BR, once you strip that out you would be left with a near one hundred year old shell with all the problems associated with that.
