New Everton Stadium

I've not been in Spurs' ground but I have seen it from afar. Architecturallly I think it's ugly and I much prefer our waterside location. All subjective though I guess.

Internally, it doesn't look that inspiring to me. From the TV pictures (excluding the single tier), it seems to be more like Wembley, with a large open feel to it (I might be wrong). And Wembley isn't a stadium I'm not that fond of to be honest. It feels soulless to me.

For me the best large 'modern' stadium I've been to (50k +) is the principality stadium in Cardiff. It just seems to nail everything. Design, atmosphere and location.

I think Spurs' ground looks fairly neat from the outside, not offensive at the very least. Inside it's a lot tighter than Wembley.

Meis did his best to screw this stadium up.

He 'consulted' fans over what the design should look like but really imposed a view that fitted what could get it past planning.

I've never bought into the 'wave' design roof. Looks nothing like a wave in reality - though the roof is its best feature. The brick and panelling facade looks terrible IMO, and the hamfisted 'Leitch' brickwork design a botched attempt to pacify the punters and distract. And now that the interior is complete - and as has been mentioned above, its functionality apparent - you can see where the cash has been spent on the project as a whole: foundation work.

The spectacle of the stadium is almost all about the scale of it and the location it nestles in. Even Meis couldn't wreck that and so it will become one of the iconic stadium's of world football.
Either Meis played for a Rangers' youth team or he slagged off Roberto Martinez. They are usually the only reasons for this level of irrationality/venom from you.

Tom and Dave sucking the life out of the thread and its not even 10 o'clock.

Happy New Year y'all
I dont know about that. It's my 'go to' thread concerning Everton. It's the one that brings joy.

The stadium - as has been said on numerous occasions - is a fantastic spectacle. But there's people here who worship every nut and bolt that's gone into it like they're religious relics.

A stadium is the sum total of tens of thousands of decisions and not all will be the right ones made. So there's legitimate critique to be made...isn't there?

Can we have 2 new threads,
one for those things you like about the stadium and one for things you don’t like please.

Just to separate those half full versus those always half empty
I would be in the like thread. The stadium looks great and location is unbeatable. Don't want to waste time looking for faults when what is in front of us is just beautiful and our new home. None of this 'Should have done that should have done this'. I am more than happy with what has been built and look forward to it being our home.

Yes, I'd agree with practically all of that. The Principality is by far the best stadium in the UK, imo, and proves that multi-tier format can also be very atmospheric, if the proportions are right (and not just when the roof is closed). I think it's fair to say that there is no architectural flair externally, proving the real value of that. Wembley is atrocious in respect to atmosphere, completely missing the mark. The old Wembley wasn't great in design terms, but had a far superior atmosphere than its replacement, even with a running track. There was a middle-ground solution to combine the best of old and new design....I think they missed it by some margin!

Spurs was never about externals. Clean lines sufficed and the budget went on the internal arrangement of multiple tiers.... the onus was placed on creating a large high-value corporate offer, plus 50k+ GA seats. They did it better than Arsenal, and added the now obligatory Kop/white-wall at one end. I think they might've been better trying to emulate the old Shelf of the original east stand and had their most vociferous fans in a large safe-standing lower tier there.

I agree. This is my only complaint with the stadium design, also the finish with regard to the lighting could be better. However it is still easily one of the best stadia in Europe.
It's a fault that also comes down to the conservation bodies too. I recognise that. (the warehouse effect)

Quite like the brick and panelling facade tbh. Imo you have to look at the broader picture, as it blends in with the area. The lighting would be my only criticism.

Just hope they're going to Evertonize it a bit more from the outside. It really should scream EVERTON STADIUM from every angle from miles away. Doesn't do that at the moment. Not really sure what the plans are for that.
